I'm new here and figured i'd come over and introduce myself in the PA thread. I'm from lansdale originally and now live in reading for school. who knows where i'll be in 4 months when i graduate.

just got a new bike. hope to be doing a lot of riding between school and my apartment and the gym. I like it, its just so expensive to get started in.

Hiya, Grahny! How's things?

I'm going to put up another thread about our bike club's metric in April . . . look for it. Smaller in scale, cooler, less crowded, and well-supported :)

Beth

Heya Beth! Things are going... sometimes fast, sometimes slow... same 'ol same 'ol :) Another Lanc metric? sweet... I'll make the trip out there. Love riding around that area.

Be sure to let me know if you're coming out this way - it would be great to ride with you again (minus the crashing part  - and the rain)

I'm in Philly, too! I live in Center City - I've just finally taken the leap into car-free living by getting rid of my car. So my bike is my chief transportation mode. Although with the nasty weather, lately, I've had to break down and take the bus to work. But usually I ride to/from work (only about 2.5 miles to U Penn).

I can't wait til springtime! I wanna spend some time exploring the trails along the Schuylkil and up Forbidden Drive.

I have a single-speed Peugeot I use for daily commuting and a nicer, newer Fuji hybrid for more serious rides. None of my friends are into biking, though.... I need some bike buddies that would like to explore the area with me.... Anybody game?

I'm too far away to be a bike buddy, but I have a question.

I was driving around the area a year or two ago, and I ran across Forbidden Drive, and took a walk, and would like to ride it some day... but I forgot where it was, or even what it was called before your message.

Where are the end points, or good access points for Forbidden Drive?

Forbidden drive is in Wissahickon Park between Ridge and Germantown Pike(s) just in the philly border, just east of Conshohocken, PA ... Park on Bells Mill Rd. and explore from there.....great mtn biking and forbidden drive is nice too, happy riding!

Just found the 'regional' section...... any other bent riders from around Chambersburg, PA? New to bents..... My first one will arrive on the 22nd and I can't wait :-)

I hope to get back to where I was about 7 years ago..... car free and doing 250-300 miles a week.

Best way to get in there if you're unfamiliar with the trail entrances throughout the park, is to go to Valley Green Inn, which is about in the middle of Forbidden drive (great place to eat too!). There is parking there:

Born and raised in Boyertown, went to school in Oley, lived in Easton and Reading. Currently in love with the Delaware/Lehigh Canal Trail, and trying to figure out how to successfully navigate the *******.

Hey all... I split my time between Drexel Hill in Delaware County and Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia. Looking for some good places to ride in the Delco area besides Ridley Creek. In Chestnut Hill I am lucky as Forbidden Drive ends at my frontdoor.

I do ride on Ono Rd south to Water Works Way, so it could have been me, I'm usually out between 10AM and 1PM. (I try to be off the road before it heats up too much.)

Could of been, were you riding with another person? They were heading south. It was closer to 2-230. Boy I wish I could ride in the mornings but that work thing always gets in the way. I usually dont get started until 5-6 except some fridays when I get off of work early.

I usually ride alone so that wouldn't have been me, but I'll probably be back up in that area on Saturday morning, I'm hoping that they aren't working on the Lickdale bridge so I can at least walk over it. If you see a rider in a plain red T-shirt don't forget to say hi.

Ditto that, Whiteknight and cdyer77. PM me to set up a ride. Bike Forums posters "guybeirhaus" and "dercola" are near Pottstown, and they are both good folks to ride with.

On the 25th of this month I plan to be at the opening of the new Birdsboro section of the Schuylkill River Trail behind the baseball field in Birdsboro. The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. that day. I want to ride the trail down to the Montgomery County line to see what sort of a job they did on the trail. The trail from Gibraltar up to Brentwood has been resurfaced and made wider in sections. Washout problem areas were paved with asphalt.

My wife and I spent a few days trimming plants growing out over the trail or hanging down low enough to catch heads.

With the high price of gas were are reducing our rides on the trail out of Valley Forge and now the "Thun Trail" has been greatly improved and very close to home.

I just registered for this event... Commerce Bank Bike Philly.... they shut down all the streets, looks fun to me, a chance to ride around center city and see the sights without all the traffic. SHould also be a bit of a challenge as I haven't ridden in about 10 years (and I'm 21  ) and I've never ridden 20 miles before. I've got my work cut out for me.

No problem... I'm gonna work my tail off this winter and spring so I can do the Tour de Shore next year. It would be my first ride of that distance plus its a great cause that I'm interested in.

Hi All! I just stumbled in here from the commuting forum. I've got to go back a few pages and catchup on who's who...

Anyone located around the sw corner of our state? I'm primarily a commuter, do some mtb around Ohiopyle and climbing of the backroads of the Laurel Mts.

Lansdale roadie checking in here. I tend to ride anywhere there are roads. I get over to Frenchtown, NJ, up towards Easton, PA, down to the Art Museum in Philly, and everywhere in between. I've also been seen riding the knobbies in Wissahickon and French Creek State Park.

TechRyder; I live in the Monroeville area. I commuted every day for about 2.5 years before getting transferred to another Pittsburgh location. I primarily ride on the roads (some in Pittsburgh) and Rails-To-Trails. I've posted occasionally on some of the other boards.

Hey Iceman, good to hear from you. So this job transfer inteferes w/ the commuting?
I live just South of Uniontown w/ a commute of a whopping 1.5 mi. :D
I've been slumming on the MTB forum and been hitting the the trails at Quebec forest (google it, awesome singletrak) on the few nice days we've had this spring. I don't post too much, more like info gathering - alot of good advice and funny stories from this crowd....

Part time PA resident here (at least via property tax). We have a cabin along the Allegheny River near Emlenton. I love to ride on the local roads and hills, we don't have those kind of hills in Ohio near Cleveland. There is also paved rail trail (Justus Trail) right near our cabin that follows the river for over 30 miles that is a really nice. Wonderful state with great fishing, I did grow up in Ellwood City and went to college at the Rock so I am partial.

I'm also signed up to do the MonTour 77 mile Race in mid-May in Danville. Anyone else doing it or done it? Any advice?

Hi TechRyder; Yea the transfer pretty much killed the bike commuting. It would be about 28 miles one way but one road in particular Guys Run Road would be nasty. Blind curves, little or no shoulder in places and cars fly on that road (particularly downhill). I may experiemnt this summer with driving part way and biking part way. I just haven't fully explored all my options yet.
