Checking in from Ridgewood, Queens. Here's a pic of one of my bikes, taken at East Williamsburg.

checking in from the buggie down Bronx. i mostly ride in mahattan, on the westside bike path down to battery park and sometimes central park. would like to meet other rides from the area for a ride, hate riding alone sometimes, its nice having company on a ride sometimes. write back and let me know if anybody would like to meet for a ride, send me a private message

thx

11215 (Park/South Slope)

Commute to 125th and Broadway everyday. I'm the big fat bastard on the blue road bike GT.

For those of you interested in a long ride. Here is this year's Montauk route...

$250 is one of those price points where you are not going to get a lot of difference between bikes. The best thing to do for a new bike at this point is figure out what kind of bike (road/hybrid/mountain) and go ride some bikes. Trek vs Giant vs Specialized is almost insignificant. Fit is #1.

Your motivation will make a big difference for what you get, are you riding for exercise? vs getting around? Are you hoping to commute? Did you just meet a guy/girl who rides...

There are some pretty thoughtful posts about what type of bike on the Clydesdale forum. They tend to be less high endish.

For a real specific answer: the shop on 96th just off of Broadway did right by my boss. She got a Fuji. They call it a hybrid but it looks more to me like a flat bar road bike.

If you are willing to come to Brooklyn, there is a shop on Union St. in Park Slope called Dixon's. No high falutin stuff, just nice folks who seem to be honest and hard working. No airs. It is the kind of shop you went to when you were a kid in Mayberry. Well, if Mayberry were a little more progressive...

11215 here. Windsor terrace, 2 blocks south of Prospect Park.

I ride in prospect park. Haven't been in for a while because of work and bike injuries but hoping to get back in routine soon. I'm on a Black Allez with white dirty bar tape.

I read that toothpaste with bleach/whitener is great for cleaning white bar tape.

hmm i might try that. I'm not too concerned with the grime but doesn't hurt to make it all pretty again!

Hi, new member here from brooklyn. I am a bike commuter and a weekend warrior on a homebuilt rigid MTB. I bike mostly to lose weight (I am a Clydesdale). I have only the one bike and I use it for everything that I do. If and when I lose the gut, I would like to try some other types of bikes. In High school (25 years ago) I had a Schwinn Varsity that I was not very comfortable on, so an upright position feels better for me. I am mostly a street and path (dirt as well as rail trail) rider, and my MTB creation has riser bars and friction shifters (Paul thumbies and Dura Ace barcon shifters). I also have disc brakes, so would like to find some 700c rims and thinner tires to mess around with.

There is a clydesdale section on Bike FOrums. Pretty down to earth and helpful, IMHO.

Welcome.
