Now we've chosen our new tandem, we have to sell our old one. Assuming the dealer doesn't want it as a trade, how much do you think I can get?

It is a vintage (1980) CCM (Canadian made) with 3-speed Sturmey Acher hub. Typical brakes for the time as well as a coaster brake on the back wheel. It has been well maintained but honestly, it needs a paint job. The frame is steel and has a decal stating "1530 High Tension Steel".

Someone said all good bikes get to be worth $100 at some point. Is it worth any more?

A very quick Google search on newsgroups revealed a similar model that sold in '02 with an asking price of $175 (CDN).

As with an older bike, after doing your due-diligence to be sure you're not sitting on a historicially significant machine, decide how much you need to get out of it such that when all is said and done you and the buyer should both feel like it was a fair deal. As for the CCM, it might be an interesting find for someone who is trying to start a collection, is decorating a theme restaurant (e.g., TGI Fridays often have really interesting finds hanging on the walls), or had one a long time ago and is looking to pick another up for posterity sake. Beyond that, it becomes hard to command much more than a couple hundred dollars for a "utility bike" given the very low prices of all the no-name brand off-shore tandems flooding the market that also fall into that category.

While CCM is a longtime Canadian brand (bikes, helmets, etc) it is not one that's well known for tandems. Anything over 100 bucks would be gravy; just clean it up (no new paint) and bet someone will be glad to have an inexpen$ive introductory tandem for local rides.
You can always ask more, and settle for less.
