Introductions - Hi from Venice boardwalk

My daughter just learned to ride and we bought her a Schwinn MTB. That ment I had to dig my bike out of the garage, a Motobecane Grand Record that I'd put thousands of miles on in the 80s and 90s. But I knew I needed something more alley frendly to follow her around. Started looking for a MTB on Craig's List and ran across a posting explaining that most people wouldn't know what a Motobecane was, giving history etc. Googled my bike and found the forum.

I've ridden a lot but never been into the equipment that much. Bought the GR because it was about the only thing around that wasn't a heavy touring bike or an Itallian frame that I couldn't afford. Loved the racing frame and just rode it. Never changed a single thing on it. 25 years later I sprayed it with WD40 and it's great.

Still need the MTB, something for alleys, fireroads and leading my daughter into the sport. Suggestions?

Hey Shark - welcome to the Forum - if that Venice Boardwalk is in So Cal - check out the Regional Discussions for So. California.

Anyway are you riding road or real trail? No reason why your old Motobecane can't be used on the road. You might want to change out the tires and have the bike tuned just to make sure everything s working properly. Can the bike do trails? Is that your question? Alot of folks are taking old steel bikes to trail but that might not be user friendly for you. Your old steel rigid frame will be no match for your daughter's suspension bike. Do you have a price range? That would help in making a decision. Stop by the MTB Thread and I there are lots of topics re reasonably priced MTBikes.

Can I have your Motobecane? That's a beautiful bike w/ lots of admirers. Welcome to the boards!

If I were you, I'd keep the Motobecane forever and will it to my grandkids.
