Lew, having a great bike under you is nice but it really comes down to the rider. I believe this forum is more about getting out and having fun then it is about tweaking the last bit of speed out your body. Atleast that is what it seems like to me. Just have fun. Keep riding. Join www.bikejournal.com and log a ton of miles under the socal Bike forums group!!!! :)

I've been a bit remiss in keeping up here. Welcome to all the new people!

ps. The most important improvement over time vis-a-vis roadbike technology has to be kevlar tires for flat protection.

Just my opinion...

My vote would go to the derailleur.

Well...he's already got one of those, hasn't he?

jschen

True... after that, kevlar lined tires is probably somewhere up there.

I've been posting for several days now, but I haven't introduced myself here.

I live in Agoura Hills. I've been riding off and on for twenty years, but I'm constantly trying to get in better shape. When I'm riding well I will sometimes ride with the Sundance group, but lately I mostly ride with a couple of friends. I like centuries (just did the Cool Breeze), and the Santa Monica mtn climbs. I keep track of the races for inspiration. My job (audio engineer) lets me get out for short rides most every day, but when it gets intense I will go without riding and have to start over. I've been riding pretty well for me lately and I keep setting higher goals.

I ride a DEAN ti road bike, and a 20 yr old Bridgestone MB2 mountain bike.

Hola, Aloha, Chao`, Ciao, Konnichiwa, Howdy and however else people in OC tend to say Hello. I would add Felicitations and Greetings, but the two nerds that use that regularly don't even own bikes, so screw them.

I typed in a nice long introductory message in the introduction section of the forum so I think it would just be wiser to insert a link:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=5109870#post5109870

Voila.

The link-blurb sticks to the thread topic as far as the Who-I'm-Iz and the Where-U-B-Ridin' questions. Any riding updates will be input into the mapmyride.com site under the username McCthulhu since it nicely counts distance and how many calories of In-And-Out burgers and Jamba Juice acai smoothies are being burned up.

I mentioned in the blurb-link that the occasional ride with intermediate skilled MTB riders would be a cool means to find new routes in the OC area as well. So, if you're interested, just peck in a quick private message and we'll hit the trail, then the ale.

"Catch ya later on down the trail. Say friend, ya got any more of that good sarsparilla?"

Hey everyone, my name is K.C. I live in Los Angeles and will be leaving for school at LMU in 4 days. for those of you who know where I am, I'm not moving very far. I won't have a car, but I will have my 2003 Novara Randonnee and I'm excited to try life car free (gas is a pain in the ***). I just got back into riding a few months ago after a 3 year break. I'm in the market for building/ converting/ buying a fixed gear bike as well (the randonnee is great for touring and long rides, but it a little superfluous for my everyday needs). I've only been on the forums for two weeks and registered for a few days, and already I've learned so much (It's amazing what the search feature can teach you).
See you out on the road... or where ever.

Joel, 27, cruiser and alcoholic from Torrance,ca. ride bikes because bars are close and d.u.i.s are expensive. in the beach communities around here the cops are pretty forgiving if you've at least the decency to only hurt yourself and not drive a car drunk. my friend oktokrewl told me how to get here and together with her husband trashbeast have planted the seeds of 2 wheel obsession, it just an addition to my addiction to classic four wheeled metal. i think there are too many cars. i think people rely to much on cars. i think cars give stupid people more power to spread around, and possibly run over pedestrians, then they should have. i dont have any specific route i like to ride but if you mapquested sullys bar, zenas, the bounty room and pats 2 cocktails you can get an idea. anyone in the area who likes to ride/build bikes hit me up. I'm a nice guy, just eccentric, shameless and pretty irreverent. I was wondering if the OCP the caligurl is affiliated with is possibly the tyrannical OCP from the robocop movies. Just kidding I'm not really wondering, but it would be rad.http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa289/bringer13/meCarsTatsInsanity/4556.jpghttp://velospace.org/files/projektrevenant.jpgthis is the newest baby saved from the trash after a few hours of cleaning and wreching. the seat still hurts my junk.

I've posted a few things here and there but have not formally said hello so here goes. My name is Kevin and I live in La Canada (right at the base of Angeles Crest). I've been riding off and on for a couple of years but finally started getting more serious about it 4 or 5 months ago. My wife bought me a new bike for my birthday - can't ask for much more than that! - and I now find myself mildly obsessed with all things related to riding. I just need to find more time to get out on the bike. I have two little kids so getting away from them is hard (plus I love hanging with them even more than riding!).

I usually ride about 3 mornings a week before work (usually do La Tuna Canyon, up Angeles Crest to Clear Creek or just over to Santa Anita) and one ride on the weekend (two if I am really lucky). I have not yet done a BF ride but really want to do one - for the most part I ride solo but really would like the company and would like to be able to learn some good stuff from all of you.

Anyhow - hope to see you all soon.

Kevin

Hola Amigos! I'm Chris in Carlsbad, about a mile up the hill from PCH.
I ride a Felt and my old Masi Gran Criterium, (though the Masi is currently having a spa-day at Cyclart.) I'm returning to cycling after a pseudo-hiatus.
I lived and raced in Holland for 3 years (though no spectacular results--those Dutch, Belgians and Flemish emerge wheels-first when they're born.)
I'm also an avid motorcyclist and have ridden to Philadelphia and back. (http://www.calamarichris.com/philly04.htm)
I'm also a kayaker and have paddled to Catalina and back (http://www.calamarichris.com/catalinaxing04.htm) a few times.
The company I work for here in C'bad actually makes the aforementioned bunnysuits.
I have no interest in riding in large pelotons, taking up an entire lane, or playing Mad Max with motorists. (We redskin cyclists are few and the paleface motorists are many. I counsel peace.)
I've been divorced for just over 3 years, so my Brooks saddle has been my most intimate companion since then. Slowly getting back into dating, however. 8D (http://www.okcupid.com/profile?tuid=8376476862798803441)
And finally, I'd like to find a safe, comfortable way to bring my foo-foo dog along, since she really seems to enjoy motorcycling with me too.
http://www.calamarichris.com/images/050313angelcurve1opt.jpg
I look forward to learning from you fine people and perhaps riding with you some day. (Though I prefer breakaway-sized groups of 3-5 over parade-pelotons.
Paz y amor, hermanos- y hermanas-cosmicos.

hey guys,

I'll introduce myself. I've lived in torrance all my life, and this summer I picked up cycling in Norcal during my internship and looking to keep at it.

I currently ride a used specialized allez sport with numerous upgraded components. As far as skill level, my usually rides (everyday other day) range about 30-40miles and climb around 3000 feet, at a max grade of 20%. that was in norcal and I'm looking to match that here in socal.

Although I live in torrance, I will be living in Westwood for the school year (I go to UCLA).

I'm looking to meet up with groups in torrance and in the ucla region. PV looks like agreat place to train, and so does the santa monica mtns.

I've seen a lot of cyclists (around your age) near MDR wearing the UCLA kits. Not sure if it's a "team" or just a bunch of people who like the jerseys, but might be something to look into.

From Westwood, you will have easy acess to the Santa Monicas. Have fun! :)

Hello!

My name is Joe and I live in Oceanside. I ride a Giant Boulder SE(obviously not something special) but hey, it works for what I need it for. I had gotten it a few months back when it became 'Game Over' for my old bike. It was a GT Outpost Trail that i had gotten in high school & lasted me all these years. Oddly though, my Giant is now making some weird screeching sound from the left pedal. hmmm!!

Other then that, I used to just ride for fun(primarily in trails) but due to epilepsy my driver's license is on hold I guess you can say & since I work from home anyway, I decided to sell my car... so now my bike is my primary mode of transportation. At least it's nice not having to go to the gas station all the dang time anymore!(I had a Toyota Supra w/ a Stage IV turbo kit pumped up to 800HP so you can imagine how much that thing guzzled gas)

Anyway, I guess that's it for now. Sorry I don't have any pics to show yet... don't have a camera & not really much of a 'picture person' anyway.. which is odd considering that I enjoy drawing and photo editing. oh well! :p

Eddie, you might want to read the posts of NYGirl777 (her name's Asia). She lives in Las Vegas most of the time, and organizes many rides/events for LV-ans and SoCalers. Asia, her husband Travis and the Estrogen Posse of hot roadie women come down here quite often for rides. They are a spirited, fun bunch.

I miss Chelsea...I took a family vacation a few years back and we stayed in a flat on Franklin's Row/Royal Hospital Road, adjacent to a private football pitch. Took the tube from Sloane Square to all the attractions (read: pubs), and it was so nice to sleep in a place with a kitchen and some space...as opposed to an inn or something.

Hey, I'm Steve. Live in Palos Verdes and do most of my riding around that area. A couple years ago, I successfully rationalized my way into buying a Ti Carl Strong frame, and built it up w/Chorus. I doubt that my questionable fitness and meager riding skills do the frame justice, but, being a clyde, it's great to have a bike that's stiff in the BB yet doesn't rattle fillings loose on those long rides. It's nice to see P.V. and some of its climbs mentioned here. Ganado seems to be a favorite, deservedly. Those that like Ganado may want to try Crownview (off P.V. Drive East) or Silver Arrow (off Silver Spur) if they haven't already. There's some 15% and above on both of those. Hope to see you out there.

Hola to all of you SoCali's!! Thanks for letting me join the fun!

I go by Eddie (or my professional name, Ed). I live in Vegas, not quite SoCal, but close enough to count I guess. In short, I love to ride! And I ride a ton, 8500 miles in '06 and around 7000 so for this year. I race a bit, mostly in road races that involve climbing. I love the organized centurys or doubles too.

I ride all over Las Vegas and Henderson with my favorite places being Lake Mead and Red Rock. I ride in Cali as well, my bro lives in Orange County and I visit him several times during the year and of course my bike accompanies me! One of my fav's in that area is Santiago Cyn and Trabuco Cyn (I think that is what its called).

I love meeting and riding with new people. I look forward to doing that with some of you.

Life is too short to not have fun every day! (and its also too short to live it with hairy legs!)
