Southern California - Who are you? Where do you ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey mrdick-- i usually do take the bike path from the marina to its end in pv-- it's a little congested at times but i hate stopping for lights so I just deal with the traffic on the path. give a little wave if you happen to blow by me-- i usually do the trip to pv on sundays.
while we're on the subject-- do any of you guys know a good route to get from the end of the bike path in pv(or from palos verdes blvd) to hb? i've heard things can get a little tricky between those two spots.
cool maybe ill see ya on the route. as for getting from PV to HB, ive never taken that route, youre gonna have to obviously take some roads. after the bike path, get up to Esplanade Ave then take it to PV Blvd. right on PV Blvd, stay to the right when you come up to a major split off, which will turn to PV Drive West. take that all the way south till you hit Hawthorne. stay on PV Drive West which will turn into PV Drive South after Hawthorne. head down PV Drive South till it turns into 25th Street in San Pedro. i dont know the area after that so heres a map you can look at:
http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bikes/images/la_bike_map.pdf
if you want to ride through PV to 25th street ill gladly show you the way.

maybe ill see you on one of my usual rides from PV to marina Del Rey. do you take the bike path along the beach?
If she doesn't then maybe I will.
I'm Steve from RPV. I usually park the car in the shopping center at the end of Hawthorne & PV Drive then ride to M.D.R. and back; 35-50 miles depending how I feel. I have been a slacker for the past month though.

I'vewheard about people like you. After seeing your rig (sweet fenders), I will never complain about another headwind. Seriously, I feel ashamed of my mileage and my tiny seat pouch ( never thought I'd say that out loud!).

Hey Mrdick and DialTone--thanks for the route ideas for the trip from PV south. i think i'm going to keep it simple this weekend, just the path for me.

Sunday is my one day to sleep in but I'll take you up on that one day.
Whats up everyone! Name's Eric. Age 22. Art/Graphic Design student at CSUN. I don't get enough sleep. :D
I try to ride anywhere I can. I've just got into cycling on the road to commute to school but now I want to ride my bike everywhere and everyday. I might add front brakes and take it for a ride at the canyons at Castaic Lake or find an empty parking lot, set up some cones and run my own autocross-like track. :)

Hi everyone
My name is Chris and I'm 19.
If I'm not at school or working at the bike shop, I'm usually on my bike.
I've been riding for a few years on a mountain bike, and I just got a road bike.
I live in South Orange County so I have ridden pretty much every MTB trail here.
Lately I've been doing a lot of night MTB rides, which I love.
I also have found the joys of doing road rides at night too :D

I am Haim, I moved to Long Beach 4 months ago and started riding at the same time. I usually ride 4-5 times a week on PCH, mostly to Balboa Island and back, and occasionally further out to Laguna Beach.

Hey, If I want to ride down PCH from Long Beach toward Huntington/Newport where should I start? I understand PCH thru Long Beach can be pretty hairy so I figured I'd find a place to park south of there and do a down and back.
try the area where the long beach aquarium is. that should be a pretty good starting spot.

Hi everyone! My name is Debbie and I live in Hermosa Beach. My typical rides are north along the strand and the PV loop. I'm new to cycling, been riding since May when I bought a road bike to do RAGBRAI (my friend insisted it was just like Mardi Gras, but on wheels....it was close, but there's none of that pesky physical activity coming between me and my beer at Mardi Gras!) Anyway, the trip was a blast and I'm hooked. I did the Rosarito-Ensenada ride and the Solvang Prelude and am hoping to do a century in the next few months.
Looking forward to the chance to meet and ride with you guys!

Hey Debby, welcome! The welcome from the woman constituency of SoCal Forums would be overwhelming if not for the fact that all of them are cruising to Joshua Tree at the moment.

I'm Grant from Irvine. I just started riding again about a month and a half ago for the first time since my early teenage years. Once I'm a bit stronger of a rider I'll be hitting up some of the mountain trails I've heard so much about! I've been mainly riding all of the paths around Irvine for the time being to get myself back in shape!
Here's my ride:

Grant, Welcome!
South OC has some great trails. Get out and start with some of the mellower trails, You can always walk sections that seem sketchy! I'd recomend El Moro canyon, stay in the canyon to start. Oneil park has some good level trails, with some sand and water crossings.
Enjoy!

Hello, my name is george and I have an addiction. My bicycle took over and was a major reason I became single (would be funnier if that wasn't a joke) :D . Anyhoo - I own and run STR (check link in sig) and it's been my baby for two years now. Some photos from our last ride:

Hello everyone!
My name is Tom, living in Manhattan Beach so I ride the South Bay trail during lunch breaks every other day.
As a kid growing up I mostly rode road bikes, did some touring in Japan. But I haven't been riding much these last few years until I started up again late this summer. My bike is a 2002 Gary Fisher Utopia thats pretty stock except for pedals, brakes, bar-ends, saddle. Thinking of buying a road bike/cross bike/or maybe just change out my front forks on the GF...
Cheers,
-Tom

I live in San Diego, in the Point Loma area. My wife and I ride out to Point Cabrillo and back almost every morning on my way to work. On days we feel good we ride down to the Tide Pools and back for a nice hill workout. Otherwise, we ride mainly up the coast towards Oceanside.
Here's my bikes. My favorite is a '86 Schwinn Super Sport.
http://www.softwaremaintainers.net/SuperSport1.jpg
http://www.softwaremaintainers.net/SuperSport2.jpg
http://www.softwaremaintainers.net/SuperSport3.jpg
Now you know why I go by SuperSport on BF.
My next favorite is a 2005 Redline Conquest Pro cyclocross bike.
http://www.softwaremaintainers.net/Redline_CX.JPG
My commuter/grocery-getter used to be an old steel DiamondBack.
http://www.softwaremaintainers.net/DiaBack1.jpg
But, the DiamondBack was a little too small for me so we fixed up an old steel Trek mountain frame with fenders and a rack.
I run Biopace on all my bikes and so does the Chief Mechanic (my wife), who is a real bike mechanic, by the way.
That's it!

WHO AM I????????
Well I love Fixies, road bikes , frames and their endless possibilities.
Gears to much work ...plus all those componets just add extra weight.
I like my bike clean and stripped to the bare minimun
personally for me its more fun that way.
Less is More.
Moved from SAn FRancisco to LA..La, well there are some perks.
Like getting hit by an 88 Year Old Man driving a 1966 Dodge Dart....GOOD TIMES*****
LA does have the Kitchen talk about a GREAT resource!!!!!!
Built my BABY there, but she's now out of commision due to the whole Bike v. Auto accident case,
not really a fair match, but hopefully I can finish my other bike this weekend.
Cheers and have a good One.
Welcome to BF melmichelle. :)

M name is Mirko. I just bought a TREK 7100 hybrid a few weeks ago and I'm trying to build up some stamina on it. I'm 56 years old and weigh 225. Never done much exercise. I'm 5'10", or at least I used to be. So far I'm just riding around the neighborhood, 3 or 4 miles. Hope to build on that soon.
The 20" inch bike felt too big so I got a 17.5" (44.5 cm) and I wonder if that is too short. I'm not riding long enough to figure out if anything is unconfortable.
The technical aspect of cycling really appeals to me, which is the way hobbies usually go for me as well. I'm really interested in rebuilding and tinkering on bikes although I am way less than a newbie even. I have a nice book and I'm reading it thoroughly. I usually enjoy learning about my hobby almost as doing the hobby itself.
Let's hope I can ride with you all once I get more confortable with my bike and maybe once I have moved up to a real road bike.
Regards,
