We couldn't figure out which would be more important, being warm & comfortable or tan lines.
That's not true! I told you caligurl categorically refuses to risk getting tan lines on her arm.

So out of curiosity, what do you two do about choosing a temperature inside the house? Is it cool enough to keep Sir-lanceimnot comfortable, with caligurl forced to bundle up inside? The other way around? (Poor Sir-lanceimnot!) An intermediate temp that satisfies neither of you?

i'm temperature regulator! fortunately we usually watch tv in the computer room which is kept toasty warm by the two computers running!

as an aside.... i have a space heater in my office that i use year round! and my car has heated seats that i can use as needed since for whatever reason acura didn't put dual climate control in the MDX  (i had my seat on to and from the ride yesterday!)

Your right, I guess my memory was going about that time. It should be I couldn't figure out which was more important.

Cali,

Are we going to get a ride report from you. Your day had to better than mine. As Jason and I were riding back to Malibu along PCH it was starting to get cooler. We were thinking about you. We were wondering since it was getting cooler, if you would put the arm warmers back on or not. We were thinking about your tan lines. We couldn't figure out which would be more important, being warm & comfortable or tan lines.

put them back on? i never took the armwarmers off! not with a short sleever jersey! egads NO!

i did loose the jacket, though! and took off the leg warmers! (but did roll up my shorts!

jason's right.... avoid tanlines at ALL costs!

Farmer/Biker Tans rock. :)

Oh, here's an updated routeslip route, which is what we actually rode. About 1200 feet difference in climbing. The coast stuff added up quick. 8311 in 119.34 miles.

Ok, when you look at it in the routelist, it shows 7426, but when you click on it, it shows 8311. Bug??

Oh, the tan lines are just white and nerdy...

Couldn't get this out of my head yesterday as I was climbing. :)

That number I'm a bit more inclined to believe.

GPS's aren't the most accurate at elevation. I'm leaning towards the 7426 number as when I first plotted it I had 7143 and I didn't have the complete route at the time. Again, Latigo Canyon was forever... Tour de Poway will be a walk in the park after this one. Anyone care to try sub 6?

I'm not sure I could do a sub-6 hour century even if it were completely flat. :( Maybe if there were a bunch of linebacker-sized riders in front of me to provide a draft, but otherwise, forget it.

My polar unit showed 120.88 miles and total ascent (climbing) of 6425. I know when I did the Bear ride and other rides the polar unit seems to be within 100 ft + or - of the published values for climbing. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the total climbing for the double metric was around 6500 ft.

I think you underestimate yourself.

Jason,

Judging by your social ride pace along PCH back to Malibu, you would have no problem completing a sub-6 century. You only have to average 16.7 mph to do a sub-6 ride. I've done probably half a dozen sub-6 centuries. Most of them solo.

My best ride was with a paceline with just 2 other riders, occasionally we would catch a tandem. Our average speed was 18.1 for 110 miles. That ride had around 3000 ft of climbing, all gradual. Just a little over 6 hrs for that distance. I know you can do it.

I guess one's view of average speeds gets a bit skewed if one spends too much time climbing. When you put it that way, sub-6 doesn't sound too impossible.
