Somebody else is from the Gold Coast--I'm a bit north.

The last road bike I had until this week was a 1980 or so Fuji. After about 20 years of not riding anything much except a beach bike for a while and in the last 4 or 5 years a hybrid, I got the bug again.

My new ride, just picked up on Monday, August 21, is a 2007 Specialized Roubaix. So far, it is really, really nice.

After 2 introduction to the bike kind of rides of 6 and 10 miles the last 2 nights, I'm shooting for 15 this weekend and then hoping to do the Jupiter Island ride on Labor Day. The Jupiter Island ride is about a 25 mile round trip from my house. The Jupiter Island part is probably about 10 miles each way; if anyone really wants to know, I'll tell you after I work up to riding it. The whole ride is along the beach rode with very little vehicular traffic!

My current goal is to work up to doing a 40 or so mile ride on the weekends, with a couple of 15 or maybe 20 mile rides during the week. Ultimately, I want to do the cross Florida ride and BRAG.

It's great to read all the posts here!

- welcome! i'm down in Pinellas...

- my riding buddy just picked up a Roubaix (carbon fiber frame) - he also 'really really' likes his bike... i took a short spin on it and was *very* impressed...

- keep up with the riding! before you know it, you'll be doing some nice long rides... i'm up to 25-30 miles a day, with longer rides upon occasion (usually 50 milers up to Tarpon Springs and back)...
