Wow, has it almost been a year since I first did this ride? This will be my second year for the CPC, and a great ride it is. The Legendary Leonard Leviathons are included on the 100k route and are a challenging set of hills for sure. I braved them last year on a 30lb, 12speed, 1980 Schwinn Traveler and survived (barely). This year I will be back and hoping to improve my avg speed significantly!

pretty tough hills heh? How does it compare to say Goatneck 100?

There are only a small set of high rollers (4 peaks or so), otherwise the ride is mostly gentle rolling hills. I haven't been to the Goatneck 100 so I can't really compare. Any hill that they paint a smily face at the top of is no laughing matter. :p

How many riders do they usually get for the 100K? I'm seriously considering it, though it may conflict with a work obligation that weekend.

Not sure how many attended last year, I think my bib number was in the 600's and I registered fairly early. Here's a page of reviews on the ride: http://texas-cycling.com/reviews/09_september/Greenville.htm

Just discovered there is also a 84mi route.... hummmm....

edit: Doh! - the 84mi route is one of the Race routes, not a tour option. :(

I have updated the original post with more information and a direct link to the route map. I am in for the 63mi route. It is the only route which passes through the big rolling hills after Leonard.

I just attempted to make a RouteSlip route for the 100k, but seems his new update is having some issues right now and got an error on the save. The route "claimed" to only have 811ft of climbing, but I wasn't able to view the profile to see if the Leonard Leviathons where properly profiled and included. 811 sounds low to me when including that section.

Registration at RBM Richardson today. I'll be going by after work (bout 4:45 or so) to get my packet and number. Will post Ride Number this evening after I get it. I'm going to be rolling on the 'Cuda so I should be easy to spot out there. TheCahill will be with me on his red Specalized Allez.

I'm racing so we only do the 56 or something like that. I'm only a cat 5, I take off at 7:40.

Ah, good luck with the race. Too bad they don't put those hills in the course, would shatter the group pretty good. ;) :p

Thanks Cuda. All the Cats race the hills, we're the only group that gets to skip them. Have fun. I'm looking forward to pizza afterward!!! I'll look for you after the ride.

Hope to see you too. Finally get to see the 'Cuda that I wasn't able to bring out to ride last time out. Need to get some time tomorrow to rewrap the bars though and level out the hoods. Right lever came loose a while back and I never got them leveled well enough. Feels odd as heck riding.

Picked up my number this evening: #109. :) I'll probably be sporting a camelbak and may print off some sort of "BikeForums.net" sign as well.

Cuda,
I think you're doing a longer route so I'll be in civilian clothes by the time you finish. I'm probably going to hang around for a little while after so look for me out there. Have a good ride.

Yeah, I'm on a longer route, at a slower pace. I'm hoping to have a 17.x mph moving avg at the end of the day, though one of the guys riding with me hasn't been on the bike much in the last few weeks so we'll probably have a slower roll out till his legs limber up a bit, or I just have enough and take off.

Last post before heading to bed and then heading to Greenville in the morning.

I plan to be out there by 7am. Weather looks favorable except for one small fact, increasing South winds tomorrow on a N then S loop. So we won't get a lot of help on the way out, then get hit in the face on the way back in. Hope to be able to do some work sharing with other riders to get back with a little left in the tank.

You probably had your head down and looking about 6" in front of you at the wheel of the guy you were drafting off. I was praying for a good draft for about 15mi today. Which group was it that had that bad crash in the first few miles? I couldn't see much when we were directed past.

that was us, a couple of guys hit the ground HARD. I got tangled up but everything worked when I got back on. Managed to still put in a decent day. Hope those guys are okay.

I couldn't tell if it was a race group (I suspected it was) or some of the tour pack. Cahill's flat happened before that point so the entire pack was ahead of us by then. Glad to hear you are alright and hope the rest heal up quick and didn't have any major injuries.
