So...right around the corner. I work in North Aurora. Drop me a line if you are ever interested in hitting the Fox River trail heading North some evening after work hours. I commute from time to time from Elgin.

Okay, there must be some deep, serious, symbolic meaning that the two of you posted within a week or so of each other(just jesting:D). I figure you're close enough to each other that you need to arrange to get together. Two Jesters together on some group ride. Probably an unbeatable pair. There must be some southwest Wisconsin ride halfway between.

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio between Akron and Cleveland. Ride a lot in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Just got back into biking after 20 years. I'm riding an 1988 Schwinn World Sport and love it. Any other classic and vintage riders around these parts?

i ride in the boonies west of the aurora airport. i used to be on the country roads that took me around dekalb and hinkley. lately, i ride down towards yorkville and southwest from there. i usually go to silver springs park, then just experiment from there. sometimes i end up in newark/sheridan.
any suggestions for other routes to take in that area?

Hey,
I live in Madison, WI. I've lived here for about 6 years, but I grew up just Southeast of here in a little town called Cambridge.
If you've ever been to Madison, you know that it's a city on an Isthmus. I live close to Lake Monona (you know, the lake Otis Redding's plane crashed into), which is about a 12-mile bike ride all the way around. Madison is a pretty bicycle-friendly little city, but not enough people bike here--it seems as though there is traffic constantly nowadays.
I live in Columbus, Ohio, well in a suburb, but you get the picture.

I live in Naperville, IL. I ride a Connondale recumbent and a Volae Expedition recumbent. I spend a lot of time on Fox River Trail and Prairie Trail between Batavia and Crystal Lake. Also southwest toward Morris and Senica. Just turned over 5,000 miles for the year.

Sorry, atomship, haven't checked the board in a few days due to other commitments. Yes, I do know some great routes, but generally farther North. My club (Fox Valley) used to run the Silver Springs 60, so I can send you that route - it's all South/West of the Beacher Center in Yorkville. I did the inaugural Ride the River route in 2006, but they didn't use my cue sheet. I also do the route/cue for Swedish Days, and I've got 50+ routes with maps/cues laid out starting from either Geneva, Wasco DQ or Headwaters Park in Elburn. Let me know what you're interested in and I can send you some PDF's. Lately our weekend club rides have been hitting Plano and Big Rock a lot, so you could easily do one of those starting at our midpoint.
And keep in touch - next season maybe join us for a breakfast ride. Usually 62-75 miles, group of 5-10, no-drop ride averaging 17.5-18.5. Definitely a social, fun occasion, but we do pacelines and always stop for breakfast at around 30-35 miles. Into the wind, home with the tail.

I bet you're right. I noticed you put on a ride starting in Hampshire last year - definitely in my stomping grounds, as Swedish Days hits the forest preserve twice for a rest stop. We ride up in that area all the time and recently 'discovered' some nice new roads out in Genoa, Sycamore, Cortland, Dekalb and Kirkland. I'm helping the MS 150 ride out with route planning for 2008, so it's been fun researching roads.
Same offer to you next year on the breakfast rides - come on down and join us if we're not too slow for ya'. :D We're going to try riding tomorrow morning, but there's a good chance of showers/snow.

I've actually gien a lot of thought to joining the FVBSC. I used to have the meetings on my calendar every month, but just never made it. I was working in Des Plaines at the time so making it to Batavia in time for the meeting was near impossible.
Now that I work in Aurora, and even bike commute often maybe I could make it.
One thing though...the Fox Valley club seems, well, kind of "mature" for me. I don't think I've ever seen any members that were even within 10 years of my age. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's kind of nice to ride with people going through the same stuff you are sometimes. If I bring up changing diapers in a conversation these guys might think of the wrong kind....:D ;)

Rode it yesterday, still closed at Lawrence. Got two flats 10 miles south of home and had to walk home in cleats (stupidly only had one inner tube and no patch kit) during thunderstorm. Not ideal.

Chicago Roller Here!
If anyone in the area is up for winter racing there's The Tour Da Chicago, in it's second stage on sunday. A tour through Chicago streets in the am. Google the name for more info, it's in it's tenth year organized by the local "Alley Cats"(bike messengers) a great group of guys. It's my first year of racing(it took me 43 years:) and it's just plain fun. I rode the prolouge 2 weeks ago and it was a blast and a great way to challege yourself and ride on an open couse;not closed streets!
enjoy

Hey, I'm over in St. Charles. I hate hills. But my brother recently asked me about coming out to Colorado mid-late summer to ride in the area around Keystone (as in mountainous/continental divide area, which is not quite as flat as it is around here:rolleyes:) Any routes close to me to ride to get better prepared? I'm about 3 blocks off the Fox River trail. I'd rather not have to drive somewhere to then ride, if it's avoidable.

It's not the hills that hurt you riding in Colorado, it's the altitude and dry air. Your really have to go hunting for hill work around these parts, but there are a few spots for hill repeats. My personal favorite (or least favorite depending on your outlook) is Campton Hills Rd West of St. Charles. Starting from the top at Campton and Town Hall Rd, it's downhill with different grades in each direction, the longest section being about 1.5 miles from LaFox Rd. Another spot for brutal grade repeats is Johnson's Mound FP off of Hughes Rd, West of Geneva past Bunker Rd. Really not to many other choices unless you head up towards Wisconsin.

Thanks, I'll check those out. As far as the altitude, I'm trying to figure out a way to train only using one lung in preparation:rolleyes: Maybe I'll just use an oxygen tank.:D

just moved back to wausau, wi from mpls, and will be here for about 2 months. if the job with the state doesn't come through, i'm starting grad school this summer in whitewater, wi.
i have a roadie, a couple fixed gears, and a s.s. rigid mtn bike, and enjoy riding all of them. raced the wors tour for a few years, but plan on switching to road racing this year. we'll see. for sure, though, i plan on doing either the 12 or 24 solo at the 24 hours of 9 mile this year, as well as the twin cities marathon this fall.
I am so* in the mood for a party. My house is under construction or I'd host a winter bike blowout. It's the time of year where I just chomp at the bit.
All of you in the Twin Cities, we're gonna do it in the spring...

Hey, Biketime, you know my old routes! I grew up in Rogers Park and was there thru 1981, and biked sheridan with ravines up to Lake Forest, up Green Bay to the same destination, and lots of times down teh Lake to teh Loop and Field Museum, mainly from 1967 thru 1977 or so. Intense time at Northwestern curtailed my cycling till about 5 years ago, now in Ann Arbor, MI.
