About a month ago I asked for recommendations for a hybrid that might inspire my teenage daughter to bike to school. The main resistance had to do with the extreme grades she'd have to climb, both coming and going, since we live in the mountains. A few of you recommended the Terry Susan B, and after looking around at the usual Trek, Kona and Specialized models, that's what I ended up getting her. After taking it out for the first spin, my daughter came back exhilerated, and said she'd of course ride it to school. The following day we did a 35 mile Adirondack ride and she totally smoked me. Yesterday she rode for miles, too. I think she's in love! The bike has some very nice features: mountain bike gearing, Marathon tires, Velocity rims, a Terry saddle, a 24 lb steel frame. I added a rack, cyclometer and toe clips. She's taken it out on both pavement and fire roads and it does fine on both. Thanks to all of you for getting us up and over this hill!

I was not in on that suggestion, but It's a beautiful thing to hear. Good luck.

Wow, that sounds great! Pics please, never seen a Terry bike (heh, but just got the catalog in the mail, I'll look there :) ). Oh and pics from the Adirondacks... camped there last Fall and loved it!

I think the real accomplishment here is raising a daughter who wants to ride a bike to school.

Pics to come. We're currently away from both a camera and a fast internet connection. If it doesn't rain, we're doing a 45 mile loop along Lake Champlain tomorrow. This whole thing feels pretty miraculous. Thanks to all!

Awesome! I remember the original thread and it sounds like the Susan B, has met all of your daughter's needs. It's a cool looking bike too.

Actually, joejack, you were instrumental in this whole thing, since it was you who explained the difference between a trekking cogset and a mountain one, and recommended the mountain, which has been key. (The kindness of strangers.) Many thanks!
