Nah, if you guys are all riding, I'm still coming. I just didn't want to show up and ride solo on this one. Solvang with the buffalo, fields and wine is meant to be shared! :D
Ok, Ill be there and Ill bring my butt with me.

Nice to know you're not detaching it for the ride.

Can I leave mine behind (pun intended) or would you gals like to look at it too? I figure I'd drop 10 lb detaching that thing myself. Wife will be home soon so I'll see if she's up for the hike. I think this motel in Buellton allows dogs as well. If not, we'll bring a tend and camp at the RV Park!

Speaking of Buellton...tell her to go to Ostrich Land! :D I swear, I could look at those things all day...they have to be one of the funkiest creatures on the planet! :p

Yeah we passed by there on the way to Santa Ynez Mission last Spring. Funny stuff, but not sure how much time she'll want to spend there. I wonder what the dog would think of the ostriches. Between that and the hike(s), she should find something to occupy herself for 5 or 6 hours. Are you all doing the 63 mile route?

I think I'm gonna have to skip out on this one. There aren't any hotels in Solvang still available and I know it will be a pain to find parking. I was planning on booking this back in September but my crash left me wondering if I would be back on the bike in time. Still just barely thinking I could work up to that long of a ride. I wanted to relive my teen years as this was my first organized ride ever. Maybe next year.

+1, I agree, I have done Solvang 7 times between the Prelude and the Century in the last 4 years. I am too cheap to stay at a hotel. I always drive up in the morning. It is no big deal.

yeah down I5, I dont know about 101. If ya know where Lake Nacamiento is, I think that is about 2.5 hours from here, of course that was towing my boat.

Scootcore
10-19-06, 11:20 AM
yeah, just outside of san luis obispo....itll be about one more hour south of that

scvroadie
10-19-06, 11:21 AM
If it is 2.5 hours from Paso Robles to Santa Cruz, is should just take a little over an hour from Paso Robles to Solvang.

I just checked mapquest from Santa Cruz to Solvang and it shows: Total Est. Time: 3 hours, 52 minutes Total Est. Distance: 230.36 miles Plus if you drive like most people from California, 3.5 hours should be easy.

Scootcore

id have to agree...

i can always plan on subtracting at least 30 minutes from the times mapquest or yahoo maps state!

Scootcore
10-19-06, 11:24 AM
likewise...and i dont even drive that fast!

Hmmm, is it easy to find a place to park the day of? If so, wanna carpool? Drive to Encino and I'll drive the rest of the way.

urbanknight
10-19-06, 12:30 PM
ok then I'm in, but I'll have to get there early enough to register since online reg is closed. Oh, and the reason I decided to go regardless of the wife: She said she's hoping to go on a business trip to Europe without me, so I shouldn't feel guilty about going to Solvang without her!

Scootcore
10-19-06, 12:32 PM
yeah...not so much, huh? i havent registered either, so were in the same boat on that one!!!

urbanknight
10-19-06, 12:32 PM
Oh, and when/where is our official meeting place? I'm sure it's in one of the pages back there, but if someone wants to repost it, I won't have to search around after my next class ends.

Oh, and by the way, I haven't registered either. I'm procrastinating as well since it could (gasp) rain. But I'm definitely in (if it rains, I ditch and go wine tasting for anyone who wants to join :D ). I'll PM those who don't have it, my cell number. The morning of, I'm going to stand at the first entrance (by the driveway) with a permi-grin. You guys will not be able to miss me. And I have attending:

BigSean
Karen + friend
Urbanknight (come on - the drive up isn't so bad!)

i'm a procrastinator when it comes to registering for rides, too.... if the ride "allows" it! the only ones i sign up for immediately are the sell out ones (i.e. breathless agony, ride around the bear!) or the ones with ridiculous later registerer fees (stagecoach).....

I registered online yesterday before the cut-off the registration. I was thinking about being a pirate, but if I did that I knew Caligurl would nor respect me.  I will be there riding with several friends from Santa Clarita & Frazier Park, we ride the route a little different.

The first 12 miles or so are an out and back through Solvang, it has a nice little climb. With everybody in the morning climbing and descending it can get a little crazy. We skip that part and ride the rest of the metric and when we get back to Solvang we then finish up with the section we skipped in the morning.

PM me your cell #

ok I can either hop in Scoot's pickup, or if there's more than 4 I have a sedan with a 2 bike roof rack. If even more people want to carpool, bring Yakima trays or a trunk rack that fits over a spoiler.

so far i think there may be just the three of us....but we shall see....are you vertically challenged like myself? the only reason i ask is that to get gour adults into the truck can be tight...if only one person sits in the back they get to lounge though....its one of those mini crewcab nissans...not too big, not too small...

merider1

Yippee! Carpool. This is going to be so much fun. I'm really a chipper morning person. I whistle, sing, clap and just generally am really loud. Stuff a McDonald's Egg McMuffin in my mouth and this will be avoided. :D

Well, I can be the "gourth" adult and lounge in the back. :p
