My usual bedtime is 10pm. Sometimes (like tonight) I simply can not fall asleep when I go to bed. I don't do anything differently before bed (that I'm conscious of), but I lay in bad and stare at the cieling.

This really blows since I'm supposed to do 90 minutes tomorrow (err, later on this) morning and at this point I'll be too zonked out to even ride.

Are you taking antihistamines? They'll keep me awake all night if I have a high stress situation during the day. It floods your system with adrenaline. Nothing you can do but wait it out. bk

Avoid caffeine, don't get too stressed during the day, relax at night, don't exercise too late in the evening, take a shower before bed, avoid TV and computer an hour before bed, get direct sunlight early in the morning.

thanks for the suggestions, all. it's usually more of a problem in the hotter months, so I should be pretty set for the rest of the year pretty soon here.

low level music is good...stuff without lyrics works well for me. last year i had an upstairs neighbor who was very noisy and so i bought a sleep CD. it sounds like a deep humming wave thing...it actually worked pretty well. strangley enough there is a cycling training CD package that includes a sleep inducing\relaxation CD similar to what i had. i read about it on pez one day.

I used to use this technique all the time, before I was married. My wife can't fall asleep with the music running tho, so no more bedtime tunes. :(

Oh yeah, I forgot: don't eat too late, digestion and alcohol mess with sleep, and take a shower before bed (I read somewhere that as your body cools down this helps with sleep).
