Hello to all of you. I have been a fan of fast bikes ever since I was a boy - and the kid that all the other kids brought their bikes to for repairs. I also love steel frames. Even in this day of carbon fiber, titanium, etc. there is just something about a nicely made steel frame (preferably with lugs) that pulls at me. Of course, I like the idea of putting the latest technology on that steel frame. I am currently riding a 1999 Schwinn Peloton with the newest Shimano 10-spd Dura-Ace and Ultegra triple components. However, a current project of mine is to put the latest (2007) Campagnolo Centaur group onto an older frame. I chose Centaur because it is the best Campy stuff made today that does not force you to use a carbon fiber crankset - even though I know that the cf crank would be stiffer than the Al one that appeals to my eye. I will have their latest ultra-torque all-aluminum crank to complete the classic look - but a 10-speed cassette and the ergobrain computer as well. I also enjoy working on old cars, so I am a forum member on several car sites as well.

Thanks again for hosting such an excellent forum and see you on the road!

Welcome to BF's! I, like you, enjoy the look and feel of steel frames. Around here, you are certainly not alone in that feeling. I'm currently gathering up a mixed Campy group (Record/Chorus/Centuar) to put on my Gazelle Champion next spring. I'll end up having a little carbon on the levers and the rear derailleur, but I went with the Record alloy crank. :)

Those old Schwinn Pelotons are nice rides. I've seen a number through ebay that tempted my bidding finger. ;)

Welcome to BF! Sounds like a nice build-up you're working on. Something I miss about the Campy stuff today is the engraved Campagnolo that used to appear on their hubs and cranksets. May I suggest some vintage engraved Campy hubs to go w/ the wheels for your new build?
