Or Iron distance to me it's all for the most part the same 140.6 miles is 140.6 miles no matter what corporate logo you have on it. I registered for Ironman Arizona in April of 07. I was going to wait untill I finish my first half iron that I have scheduled in April. The only problem was there are almost no slots left in the race so I went ahead and commited to it.
The reason I signed up for a real Ironman race is because I wanted to go all in on my first 140. I didn't want to regret it for some reason later that it wasn't an official Mdot race.
So who here has done one yet?
You're doing a 70.3 and 140.6 in the same month?
Well thats pretty ballsy. Good luck.
In the future, I plan on doing several IM races. Although, I want to have more races under my belt before then and become a stronger swimmer. I have done about 5 sprints, 5 olympics and 5 1/2's. I would like the do 10 1/2's before I try an IM. Just for personal confidence.

J Style,
My friend is doing IM AZ 2007...good luck to both of you. I'm signing up for IM Wisconsin 2007 in Sept. It will be my first IM. I'm doing a HIM on Sept 17, 2006 in Aurora, CO.

I have raced two IM. Australia 2000 and New Zealand 2003.
Official IM races for two reasons
1. No non official IM races locally
2. Trying to Qualify for Hawaii (missed out by just 3 minutes at NZ!)
If I were just interested in finishing the distance and there were non official IM events available, I would be fine with just entering these instead.
HIM and IM same month is pretty keen -full 3 or 4 weeks apart? It is definitely doable, but depends on what pace you race either or both events.
@Curt Kurt - As to wanting the confidence of 10 HIM before running your first IM!? You haver already completed 5 HIM's! That's a solid base!! I say you will do it with ease!
Did my first IM (10:23) after only racing two longer events around the HIM distance and a total of 18 months training. First IM finish rates up there in the top ten life moments for me!

I've done 3, lake Placid, Wisconsin, and Frankfurt.
I've also done a half about 5 weeks after a full. I didn't TRAIN, just sorta recovered and kept in shape.
I pr'ed, though I would not have done it the other way around.

Of those 3, which was the toughest course?

My buddy just did IM Canada yesterday after doing the Vineman Half (IM 70.3 event) on July 30th. He did very well in both events.

I just went to Ironman Canada this past weekend (to spectate/support a friend) and I cannot begin to tell you how well-organized it was. There were about 2300+ athletes and over 4200 volunteers. That's a pretty nice ratio. It was a well-oiled machine. I have no idea about other organizers, but this was impressive.
