Southern California - Anybody riding up GMR on Sunday?(OCRebel ride)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Got an email from the Rebels that they will be riding up GMR on Sunday at 7 am. They are encouraging virgin GMR riders to ride. Gina has been thinking about giving GMR for a while and I've seem to have somehow talked her into this one. She's done the first 8 but never the 42 to the village. So I guess she's a semi-virgin!:D

She did the 8 on her old '84 steel Bianchi double. Now she'll be riding her new CF Pilot triple. Along with her new bike, elevated fitness level, and "my" all time low climbing form, she just may drop me in the mountains. Of course I'll be wearing a camelback, carrying two extra bottles for her, hauling some Nutter Butters, G-ade powder, and a shovel!

I'm just so excited being able to see her struggle a bit. Will tell if she has the drive to do a few organized centuries with me next year.

Couple of weekends ago, we did the SA Trail with Oldnewbie(Chuck). Near the end of the ride, I was holding 20-21 mph last 7 miles form the Arrowhead Pond. She was hanging tough with us and a tandem. At one point, I looked back to see if she was ok and still there. She had that Jan look on her face. The look when Lance looks back into Jan's eyes before he steps on the gas!

She had the same look on her face that Jan had. I swear she looked exactly like Jan! Man, it was beautiful!:p

Anybody else plan on being there? We'll be slow, but we're gonna try!

Pretty but, very cold. OC and I did Baldy last December (or was it January) and it was freezing. My hands and feet were completely numb and I was wondering how long it would take to get frost bite. Amazingly my body core was fine and I was still sweating a little. I was also surprised that breathing the cold air didn't bother my lungs.

Cold? Hehehehe! We did a forum ride once and got stuck riding in the freezing rain. TCR or 007 whatever his name is will remember the ride! Pouring rain and freezing temps on the way down. Good thing Gina was driving my truck for support that day or there would still be one lil girl up there somewhere!

We weren't expecting rain at all. An hour after we got down, the mtn was covered with snow. Was the first time I really wanted to lay down and go to sleep. Didn't know I could shiver so much and cry at the same time!:(
