I have had good luck using Tufo tape with Tufo tires. I have a sponsored rider who prefers the Vittoria Pista tire and wants to use tape instead of glue. Any good reasons for avoiding this combination?

If I recall corectly, there is a warning on the side of the box that reads something to the effect of " Not to be used with any brand of tire other than Tufo". I have seen two new Bianchi pistas that had non Tufo tires "glued" on with Tufo Tape. The tires had been installed several days prior and we easily rolled the tires off the rims at full pressure by hand. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tufo Tape works great with Tufo tires. I have team mates that swear by it. BUT ONLY WITH TUFO TIRES.

I've heard this both ways - Tufo tape working great on non-Tufos and also like the above poster says it not sticking well at all. No direct experience of the tape myself, but I always wondered if this difference is anything to do with using latex coated vs bare cotton basetapes. I know the Tufo bts are bare cotton - maybe the tape doesn't adhere well to latex coated bts?

i used the extreme tape with vittorias and never came close to rolling a tyre. infact it was quite the opposite.
it took me about half an hour to get the tyres off the rims and my thumb muscles were hurting for days after....
it might be notable that i cleaned the basetape with acetone before mounting the tyres. would that have got rid of any late coating if it had it?

cleaning with acetone will certainly get rid of any dirt/grease on the basetape, but usually you have to scrape latex off with a blunt edge.
What Vitts were you using? I use the Pista CS and Pista EVO CS and they are latex-free. Not sure about their road tubs though...
I know other riders who use Vitt track tubs plus Tufo Extreme tape who've had the same experiences as you ie it sticks extremely tenaciously.
