Asia - Tokyo sadness

Im here in Tokyo and cant find a frame to fit me in what i want. SO pissed today. Anyone here can help? Looking for a single speed. At this point..almost any of the decent brands will suffice. :mad:

Anything above frame size 58 is difficult to find in Japan. What size do you need?

Thanks, yeah i need about a 55. In a single speed complete i havent been able to find ANY. Zero available everywhere ive looked. :(

I visited the cycle depot place you linked me to. They were really cool guys and deal strictly with fixies. They didnt have anything to fit me either. :) but they said they might know of a frame set in a shop in Asakusa. Im supposed to go there to check it out this weekend.

Hi, Level (http://levelcycle.web.infoseek.co.jp/2ofus/keirin/keirin.htm) is in Arakawa-ku. Beautiful, but cho-takai I would think... Many of the keirin pros are pretty tall, though, so maybe you might find something s/h on yahoo auctions?
There is also this (http://www.kalavinka-bikes.com/index.html)place in Meguro. I don't think there's a shortage of potential frame builders in Tokyo if you look around.

Thanks for those links but those are serious numbers. Cho-takai to say the least IMO. Real racing machines no doubt. Much more than i need.

Thanks yeah, ive looked into the Fuji, although i dont like it at all. There were no sizes availble big enough from their distributors. Next year they say. Booo!

That's strange. Did your LBS say that? The distributors list 540, 560 and 580 as sizes... might be worth calling Akibo and asking them directly. Unless you can put down some serious cash, I don't think you'll have too much choice over the brand.

Yeah ive had more than one LBS say that. The bikes dont exist for sale anywhere in this years model. Again, i dont want a Fuji.
Id rather have a KHS. But in japan they dont come in anything over 53...lame. I dont get it because that has been the story on a handful of the models i have checked out.
I have found some keirin frames but yeah, theyre a lot more money and im looking for entry level. Ive never had a fixie so i dont wanna drop a US grand on one.

Hard to get any flexibility and 'Can do' attitude in this dump. Best to source it from abroad, the shipping will be expensive (maybe try Australia) but the cost from here will probably even it out. With one made in the US or Australia at least you can Skype call the maker and make sure its going to be right.

Yeah i was recently considering an aussie place but i dont know of any at the moment. Will hunt for them on the web. thanks:)

I get any serious questions answered at the Y's academy group in the Akasaka area. There is a guy there on the racing bike floor that speaks great English that could probably help you out. They have a rig there too that will tell you exactly what you should be looking for frame wise. It costs 5000 IIRC but probably worth it considering how much a nice frame is.

Yeah ive been to that shop a few times. I used to work about a block from there. They couldnt help at all. They ran every lead dry and found NOTHING in any of their shops or from any of their distributors in a 55 or 56 cm. They told me to wait till next year :mad: and they might could get something.
