Im getting a new bike pretty soon and i have some questions, and yes i did read the faq. I have been looking for awhile and we have narrowed down the price to $350 or less, but since there are alot of labor day sales, we should be fine. I want a mountain bike for a couple of reasons, 1. my friends ride them 2. if i got a road bike i would only be on the road and 3. i like to go in trails like in national parks. Ill start off with a nice bike that i came by at a local rei, its a zed 2.0, it has front suspension, and disk brakes (and ever since i saw them i have really wanted them on my bike, even though i know there not necesary) I love this bike so much, but im not sure if its good for $350 so could you guys help me out? Also we found the new Gary fisher Wahoo, it has front suspension and i think it has v brakes, and both have those new kind of shifters(ones with the 2 buttons, sorry forgot what they are called). Could you guys suggest some bikes for me too? I have a Eriks bike shop (http://www.eriksbikeshop.com/), Willamson Bikes (http://willybikes.com/index.cfm), and a Machinery Row (http://www.machineryrowbicycles.com/), which is pretty much all brands of bikes, and i think i can order bikes online and have them delivered to my local bike shop. Thanks for your help, and i hope i choose the right bike, with your guys's help, ofcourse!

o and i forgot, i have another question. Is there any difference between the front suspension with the rubber covers over them and the front suspension without rubber covers over them?

Get a bike without disc brakes at this price. Spend as much as you can afford at this point. Look at the Specialized Hardrocks and Rockhoppers, Trek hardtails, and Ironhorse hardtails.
i like the following in your price range:
http://www.eriksbikeshop.com/app/search/detail.htm?&item_id=PA6970
http://willybikes.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=1&sort=priceasc&id=7877
http://willybikes.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=1&sort=priceasc&id=7898
http://willybikes.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=1&sort=priceasc&id=7062
that's just what i like. you should take the bikes for a spin and see what feels comfortable for you. and about the k2 zed ... i don't know much about them at all, so i can't say anything. from what i hear, and remember, i can hear wrong, they're not great.

I just got a Marin Bolinas Ridge at REI for $319. That's down about $70-80. After one whole day I think it's great.
