Mountain Biking - Blew out headshok on cannondale...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have an older (1997 I think) Cannondale super V 500. I bought it used for 400. Yesterday while riding I blew out the Headshok, it lost all it's air and completely bottomed out. I took it to the bike shop and they refilled it with air, pressed on the front and you could hear all of the air quickly leak out. They're saying if its to busted I'll have to get a whole new fork, which is going to cost 300+, which is almost what I paid for the bike... I didn't know if anyone had any suggestions on what I should do? A few of the ideas that came to my head is.
On ebay they have an internals replacement kit, to replace the air spring and oil dampener, or there is a few people selling a whole fork. Or I could get the shims for the headstim and get a different type of fork/shock... Maybe something with a little bit more travel, 80mm isnt much.. is there a good fork out there with like 120mm thats cheaper than a cannondale headshok?
Cannodale can rebuild it for around $100 give or take, from what I have heard. You won't be able to install new internals unless you have the specific tools to take it apart. Btw, a '97 headshok isn't even 80mm, its either 60 or 70mm.
So if I take the fork off my bike and send it to cannondale they can rebuilt it?
Take it to your nearest C'dale dealer. They'll take it from there. I blew out the needle bearings on my headshock back when I had one. I had it rebuilt once and I ended up selling that bike. I have a 5" bike now with a Fox Vanilla r 130. I paid only $215 for the Fox and it's the best XC/AM fork I have ever ridden.
Where did you buy it? Online or locally?
