Mountain Biking - The Pop Loc - is it worth it?

Howdy folks! I have been riding on a pair of new rockshox for the past month. Said shox come with a little trigger you can mount on your bars to lock out the suspension, called a pop loc. When i installed my fork i decided to wait to put on this little trigger b/c i figured i would probably break it anyways. does anyone have any experience with the pop loc? you like it? tell me about it. you think they're dumb? i'd be interested know why. i climb a lot. am i hurting my preformance by not locking out my fork? I put one on my wife's Reba so she would be able to mash hills without bobbing all over. If I ever put a suspension fork on my SS, I'm getting one with a remote lockout for sure. Hammering up hills with the front end sproinging all over the place kinda sucks.

if you want to mash up the hills out of the saddle without getting sea sick then yes, use the pop lock.

if its a higher end fork with poploc adjust and external floodgate - you can alter the valve so its just locked enoguh to prevent bobbing and brake dive, but will still take out the rough stuff.

i think lockouts are great but a remote lockout isn't required for me, ive test rode them and its pretty neat to lock them out on the fly, and you can fine tune it pretty easily to just be locked out enough to help bumps but not hurt efficiency, like if you're on a rocky descent then an immediate sharp uphill grade you could go from squishy to hard without stopping (no innuendo intended) but without a remote lockout i'll stop at the top of the hill before the descent and set it accordingly and continue. however... if i had a fork capable of remote lockout and had the cable and doodad to install i'd go ahead and do it. but shopping for a fork its not really a major selling point for me. that fox air fork with the remote height adjustment would be cooler.

I've used Poploc on a Rockshox Revalation and i believe its a great feature to have. Poploc is definatly a must if your a racer and your climbing hills. Riders don't like it when they have to reach down to the fork and lock the fork out the harder way, where as they would lose their balance and concentration. As i'm a XC rider, i would defintatly get the Poploc.

One more thing to break IMO. And one more thing to forget I had turned on. I fiddle with my front shocks until I have them set to respond the best to big hits. That will usually take out most of the bob going up hills. And now with SPV tech on many forks, the lock out feature is not needed if you set the fork up right.

I have lockout on the fork, but its annoying to reach down and lock it out on the go. If i ever upgrade, i'll probably get the poplock.

you could just learn not to bounce up and down on the fork when climbing and not worry about having/not having lockout.;)

wow. thanks for all the responses! i think i need to read up a bit on my fork and about the floodgate and all the other bells and whistles. i am kind of hesitent to put on the pop loc because i figure i'll just break it. but if i have it already, what the hell? i look forward to experiencing the benefits of a rigid fork while climbing.

If you already have it, might as well use it.

It's worth having on your bike(it doesn't weigh much) if you own one already, but I don't think I'd buy one.
