Ok, this deserves a little history...

I'm 25, in middle/high school I got into mtb and went crazy. I had a longtime riding partner and we would ride weekly or more from my house in North Austin to the Barton Creek Greenbelt, ride the entire trail, and ride home. It averaged a 90-100 day all said and done. I used to be in shape enough to do that.

Well, I turned 17 and got a car, stopped riding as much, and moved to college in San Marcos..a not so bike fiendly place, especially mtb, as Austin. I gained a freshman oh, lets say 50. I am studying for my grad degree in Environmental Science, so needless to say I am a tree hugger. I am fed up supporting an oil economy, so I bought my new Trek FX to commute and get back into (a not round) shape.

I have commuted all week minus friday, and when I felt up to it, went out for joyrides. I love my new bike. I have never riden anything so versitle and fast! (Keep in minf, I have only been a knobby mtb guy up to this point)

To the point already!

For the first time in years I feel wonderful. I had forgotten the high you get from riding. And behold, there are new highs on the road I never thought of. There is nothing like making it up that hill!

This was my ride tonight. I am feelling wonderful, and though I realize most of you can ride circles around me, I am proud of what I did! The last hill where I turned around winded me, but didn't kill me as much as I would have thought. The new bike makes the hill much easier than the mtb. Oh, my time wsa 24 minutes, making my average speed 11.9mph. I like this route, I will use it to judge my progress as I get more in shape.

I love those times you feel ontop of the world! Now, time to go take a shower before my wife kills me :D
