Why Do You Capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word?

If I still had my MP3, I'd be listening to Rage Against the Machine, Buck Cherry, RHCP, Audioslave, Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Kid Rock, Nine Inch Nails, the Scorpions and Mars Volta. That's only for energetic rides.

Pink Floyd. I have all their studio albums, every live album, every solo album, and a ton of bootlegs stuffed into my iPod.

Lots of Led Zeppelin and Tool, too.

stick with a large boombox duct-taped to a rear rack. Way more street cred and a little safer.

yep nothing spells 40-year old virgin like a bicycle "stereo" system

but anyway, i listen to alot of stuff. this past week my ipod most played has probably been lupe fiasco, jurassic 5, motion city, the matches, and steely dan

if i wanna get in the mood to ride, i throw on some atreyu, underoath, or something smooth like jayz

I never listen to music while riding, i feel it is a disturbance. I have to be alert at all times while riding in my area, if i make one wrong move or decision i am ran over and considered dead. Lots of bad drivers in my area, only one of them have to run me over though.

3 posts later, we get your drift. I don't listen to music on group rides, but riding solo, I do. Usually the wind nois keeps me from hearing a car until it's up to me anyway, so I don't see how an ear bud in my right ear hurts much. That, and I do have a mirror, which I find more useful than my ears for alerting myself to other bikes and vehicles. I'm not a superfast rider, but how slow do you have to go to not have wind noise obstructing your sense of hearing?

I've had the same problem, Shemp. Mostly it seems that wind noise keeps me from hearing much of anything. I tried getting these Slipstreamz things (http://www.slipstreamz.com/), but I haven't had much luck. Despite what the site says, they're not iPod specific, and you can actually wear them to screen out some of the wind noise even if you're not wearing earbuds. However, they don't stay on well, they're REALLY picky as to how the helmet straps sit, and generally they never sat right on me.

Anyway, I agree that wind noise is as much of a problem as headphones could ever be, except that I can turn my head to cut the wind if I want to hear.

Listening to music affects my: Hearing, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, i tend to not pay attention to other vehicles while riding. I am just one of those people who can only do one thing at once, never great at multi-tasking. Not agaisnt any-one who plays music while riding, i just prefer not to.

No music when I'm on the street. On the trainer . . . it depends on my mood. Rock, Techno, what ever "strikes my fancy."

I listen to a lot of classical on my ipod when I'm out riding. Beethoven, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, etc... I also listen to a lot of NPR news. But sometimes it's nice to ride with no sound track at all. Just cruising out in the country with the wind and the crickets and the birds can be nice.

Thanks reverborama, I knew I could count on someone. ;)

Although I usually do have a "soundtrack" of sorts running through my head when I'm biking, usually whatever catchy nonsense song I last heard that won't get out of my head. Sometimes I can "change the channel"; I find heavy metal type stuff makes it easier to set PB speed records.

I have only brought my iPod once, and left one ear bud out... It is really not worth the risk. But when working out, I plug my iPod into the stereo and usually play Saosin, Bullet for my Valentine, or CKY

I bought a little speaker thing to plug ipod into for front of bike. Everyone hears me comin'! lol Some try to keep up to hear my fun tunes but not too many can. ;)
I listen to all sorts of stuff, old & new, I have a couple odd songs on it too that are a riot on the trail when I sing em loud.

For my own safety reasons, I don't listen. I have to remain alert when riding for other cyclists, joggers, rollerbalders and pedestrians when I'm on the trail and traffic when i'm on the road. Safety should be a priority when riding a bike.

Listening so far just to the sounds of the wind going through the trees, the burbling sounds of the streams, the vehicles coming and going, the peoples in their yards, the dogs barking, the horses and cows in the farms, the birds in the woods...

Will be taking the iPod out with me on occasion, and at that time will be hearing Pink Floyd, Marshall Tucker, Led Zep, Rush, Michael Stanley Band, Allman Brothers Band, AKUS, Collective Soul, The Blessing, Genesis, Chris Isaak, Zakk Wylde, etc.

Ah yes, the sound of wind, er uh, nature. (http://www.sounddogs.com/previews/101/mp3/156351_SOUNDDOGS_Wi.mp3) Seriously, how much nature are you hearing in Illinois? Last Saturday afternoon, the wind completely drowned out my mp3 player at times. I don't think I'm going to hear a lot of birds chirping or whatever other sounds of nature Illinois has to offer over that (maybe a farm tractor putting down ammonia on the fields this time of year, but of course you smell that before you see or hear it). Maybe later this summer I'll enjoy the sound of wind whistling through the corn field, but for now, there is hardly jack to hear out there amongst the empty fields.

I have a real problem here in So. WI. It is illegal! I love to listen to my iPod where I can however. I actually got "pulled over" the other day on the way home from work! I thought the protectors of peace had better things to do but I was wrong. $250.00 later and I am alas bound by the laws of man. If I can, I will listen to older rock, i.e. Tool, Trent Reznor(NIN), Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Simply Stu Tri Podcast, Jurassic 5, K-os, a perfect circle, and a few talented others.:D . It is most likely against the law for a reason, but the few ruin it for the many if you know what I mean. I was hit by a car last year and I was not listening to anything. I was on the road in mid-day light and some inattentive motorist figured I would stop for him as he was pulling out of a parking garage. I was about 30ft away and was moving at approx 32mph. Not going to happen. He whaked me straight on and cracked my Alu frame. Luckily I only suffered a mild concussion and a severly sprained ankel,(I couldn't get my foot out of my clipless pedal). Oh well.

I only listen to my ipod when I am riding alone in the country.

Ipod is loaded up with Slipknot, Disturbed, Ministry ect for fast paced rides and for slower rides I will go with Audioslave, Nickelback, Stone Temple Pilots.

I listen to anything fast paced, and pretty loud. Lot's of punk, alternative, Beasties, Metallica... basically whatever is on my MP3 CD that I grab for the day.

I love Pink Floyd, but too much of it is quiet, which means I have to turn it up, which means I can't hear anything around me when the music really gets going. I ride a vintage bike with friction shifters, if I can't hear the gears, the music is too loud.

Did you have both ear phones in/on or just one in your right ear? Oh, and was this state, county or municipal?

As far as I know the law is only municipal. I coupd be mistaken however. I had a set of folding on ear headphones and I turn them around so the speakers face outward. They were tucked under my Giro helmet so I don't know how the hell Johnny Law saw them but oh well.
