Cyclocross - The Montreal Scene

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
wow, so i just went up to montreal and totally loved it. what a great city. I'm definitely going to head up there for some CX races this fall...but I am wondering...are the races right in the city, in city parks...or on the outskirts of the city? I'd love to make a day/weekend out of racing in MTL and then hagning out in the city afterwards for a big lunch and a beer. I guess I need to start practicing my french because it's much more prevalent than I thought!
can anyone reccomend some good places to stay, eat, etc...and especially some good bike shops where I might be able to find some euro/rare/singlespeed stuff like an old moser frame or a catlike helmet?
Plug me in!
thx

Yeah... MOntreal's kinda cool.
There are no races IN the city itself. The closest is in Mirabel, on 14 October. That's about 50 km north of the city. Sutton, which is 113 km south, near the US border, is on September 17, and Sherbrooke, about 140 km away, and also near the border, is on October 22.
Send me and e-mail. I can give you all the info you need about Montreal. As for bike shops, Martin Swiss Cycles (http://www.martinswiss.net) is probably the most cyclo-cross friendly... and we're a Catlike dealer.

The closest race to Montreal is now Chateauguay (sept 23rd). It is off the island of Montreal & about 20min from downtown. After that, the other race really close is Parc Domaine Vert in Mirabel, QC which is about 40min from downtown.
Velocipedio is the great fellow who really introduced me to cyclocross!

As far as lodging goes, the downtown Hilton is excellent. It's pricey, but it's also a short walk from Crescent street, where many of the bars and restaurants are.

In fairness, there are bars and restos everywhere. Step outside wherever you are, and there you'll find a restaurant. Good one, too, probably.
