Plenty of climbing and PR stories in this forums so I figure why not list our best or favorite efforts. So here is my story.:)
I 've been riding since '95. Always have been a Clydesdale. Started riding at 255lbs. Friends at 155 always kicked my butt up MtBaldy RD. and on the bike path. One day, I tought it would be exciting to try keeping up with some of the flyguys, so I started training in the mtns. Chanegd the diet and dropped from 255 to 220 along with the training.
My buddy had been training hard and was still 30 lbs lighter than I was in 2003. He talked me into doing the "Ride Around the Bear" (century with nearly 10,000 ft of climbing). I knew that he would surely kick my azz on the ride. He had done it the year before with a time of 8:45. I figured I try for 8:45 and be happy as a Clyde! Things went as planned and I finished my first time with 8:38. He was 5 minutes behind.. I was happy about that!
But after the ride, I started thinking that I could do better if I trained a lil harder. He wouldn't do the ride with me after I set the goal. He said he had done his best and it couldn't be done. I thought differently so I started training harder.
The next year I signed up for the ride and gave it my best. I was 2 minutes shy but I took off 58 minutes for a time of 7:40 in 2004! Ranked #123 out of the 400 registered! This Clyde was pretty happy with that after so many other cyclists said I was too big to make it up the mountain!:D
There, now you have my very bestis story, what's yours?:)
