Not strictly recumbent, but I figured it'd fit here. Check it out! (http://www.latimes.com/features/magazine/west/la-tm-speedbike35aug27,0,5339771.story?coll=la-home-magazine)

There is more info here at the Veloliner site. Dave Balfour owns the bike that Rob English set the British record in. Dave has more pictures and links to other sites and diaries.

I like the parts where the writer explicitly says that 'bents are faster and safer than DF bikes. YES YES YES they are. I crashed my bike going down Dillard road(14% grade 6 miles down hill, curvy with gravel) lastnight without a helmet on because I saw this really tight corner coming and noticed the gravel and I just got scared. I was accutely aware of the fact that I didn't have a helmet on(it was stolen about a week ago, my brand new giro that my lovely bought me for our anniversary) and that if I fell in this corner it was going to suck. Right as I got to the corner, this big SUV comes around it(he did nothing wrong other than spook me) and I dumped. Thankfully I stayed in my lane and I dumped it on the non-drive side(saving my rear der). I got up and checked out my bike, everything seems just fine despite some tearing on the seat upholstery(quick fix with needle and thread) and a fair bit of road rash and my favorite jersey being destroyed(10 bucks at target, it even matches my bike). But, the point of this was, MY BENT IS SAFER THAN A DF. I need to make a mental note to slow down when descending Dillard though, but it is soooo fun, curvy and steep, with some nice semi-flats to slalom on. MMmm MMmmmm Good.
