Sure you guys (Psimet, Cylowe and Aham23) dont want to just do the 50 so I can grab your wheels?? Wouldnt it make you feel better just knowing that you helped a brother out?? Think of the extra workout you could get draggin my fat arse all over :D

Last year this was my first century. I rode the whole way solo and the wind was coming out of the south so it was bad on the return. Wind was gusty. I do not anticipate it being as bad Sunday.

Crap...I was counting on you to pull me for the whole 50 miles  . We will take it nice and easy the whole way. I am anticipating a great ride!

NEW WEATHER UPDATE FOR SUNDAY SEPT. 17.......

The southerly wind will turn out of the North at the exact moment I make the turn around towards the finish line, and pick up in intensity until I cross the finish line...

Oh, sorry, I was dreaming, dozed off at the keyboard for a few.

Resume normal traffic..

I'm seeing an awful lot of negative vibes about this wind prediction for tomorrow.

It's time to toughen up, buttercups!

It's a little wind! A little suffering will do us good. And it beats the heck out of yardwork.

Madopal:

That was freaking awesome.. I am a FMJ freak....

:) I posted at work, so I was only able to find that crappy shot. I've since done a better grab to give Sgt. Hartman his due.

We need a little positive reinforcement.

This is a good point. After all it is Chicago area. When is it not windy!!!

Guys...I just lost a friend who was struck by an SUV while riding.

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=228955

I'm not sure how I'll be on the ride tomorrow. I apologize if I don't end up talking a lot. I have a feeling I'm going to take all this out on my legs...looks like I'll be pulling.

Be careful gang, especially you Psimet. Don't zone out in traffic.

I 'm personally gonna choose to opt out. It seems like my 25 mile route will only parallel the longer rides for 5 miles. Doesn't seem worthwhile for the effort of getting up at 5:30 in the morning. ;)

I'm just gonna go for a 25 mile ride 'round here to get ready for our Oct. 1 excursion.

Again, be careful and I'll see you guys in a couple weeks.

I'll wait for a post ride report. :)

I am very sorry to here that. Hopefully we will still see you tomorrow for the ride. Everyone deals with these things diffferently so if you are not there in the morning I am sure everyone will understand.
Maybe a nice leisurely ride with friends will help you get through the day a little easier.

Don't appologize for anything psimet. Do whatever you have to do to get through this. If this means silence, anger, or anything else, that's perfectly okay. I will happily ride with you and the other BF members no matter your temperament.

Damn, Psimet, I'm sorry for your loss, and the loss of a fellow cyclist.

+1

Do what you need to do. If that involves some hammer time then I am with you. If that involves little conversation then I am with you. I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy.

Thanks guys. I think S Dog hit it on the head...I'm an anger/silence kind of guy. I'm sure I'll be my jovial conversationalist self for most of the ride, but I am sure there will be a section or two where I will try to rip my BB apart.

I will be there for sure. I now know I need this ride tomorrow.

I'll sleep like a baby tonight, but I was bouncing off the walls when I first got home. We got to see a good football game at least!

We're back. That was...at times...very difficult. jtm1631 may not have completed. He bonked really badly. CyLowe hung with him for a while and then Kenal0 hung with him after the next stop until he called Uncle. I was caught in "no man's" land between jtm and Kenal0's group and Aham, Signal11, and Cylowe up ahead.

Luckily CyLowe drifted back and I caught up with him. By the time we got to the last stop Aham and Signal11 had already been there around 10 minutes and were off.

I'll have to give a better write up later when I stop halucinating from the shear exhaustion.

I take it your ride went well??

Wow, that was really difficult. I owe a huge thank you to all the forum members who pulled me along, but especially Cylow and Kenal0. As Psimet said, I called uncle at the Great Lakes Naval station. I was holding Kenal0 back and I felt bad.

I sat and caught my breath for awhile and than cruised into the last rest stop at mile 90. I tried to catch my breath and force food and water down, but I knew I was in trouble. Got back on the bike and headed out. Mentally and physically exhausted by the ride, I wasn't sure how far I would get. At mile 95 there were no riders in front of me and no riders behind me. I was beaten and I was about to ride right past my mom's house. I knew this was it for me. I pulled in the driveway and called uncle. 95 miles was it for me.

The full route was just over 105 miles and I knew there was not another ten miles in my legs or my head. If this century route had been 100 instead of 105 I think I could have forced the final five miles out, but who knows. 10 definitely was not a possiblity.

Thanks again to everyone for pulling me along. My first attempt at a century got the better of me. The bright spot of the ride is that my knees actually feel good and were not giving me too many problems.

I am glad to here you got home safe and sound. Those last 20 miles or so were tough.
You made a wise choice. Le me know when your knee is feeling better and want to ride.
