Diablo again. This time in 1:41, which is more in line with my (lack of) fitness. It got hot early. Now rest until my century on Saturday. :-)

Did the MS Waves to Wine ride for the first time. The weather was mostly great, though it was pretty toasty near the finish of both days. Saw fellow bf'er ahpook at the end of day 2. The MS Society does a nice job with all the rest stops and support. I highly recommend it for next year!

Im a junior so everything probably seems a little harder. The B ride is a little more forgiving with multiple regroups, though it does tend to climb more. The Los Gatos ride is faster, flatter, and runs more like a race with surges and attacks.
We(Los Gatos) used to have a saturday training ride, its sense fallen by the way side. Hopefully we can pick it back up this season. It was a much faster ride, more of a race simulation. We also do a Winter Solstice Century with another team. Its alot of fun and is also race like, attendance varies but is usually 20-50 riders(regroups at turns).

From what you and other club members have said it seems that the Sunday "social" ride has sped up quite a bit and the Saturday ride has gone downhill.

very basic program. written in objective c (mac 10.4 something) uses quicktime to render a video with some data parsed from a .tcx file (gps). again, very basic, could think of a few features that should be added.
on a side note, the company that makes the camera released some sort of gps version. although, i didn't check if any new software came with it. on their website they show an area to the right of the video where map/speed/elevation are displayed. http://contour.com/promos

How do you like the camera? I was debating between countour HD and GoPro HD. Was leaning towards Contour because of the form factor and less of a fish eye affect.

i like it a lot.
video quality is really nice. you can configure size/bitrate/fps. the fov depends on the size you select. 1080p will give you a slightly different angle than 720p.
the mounts are ok. they give you enough to get creative with. haven't tried the handle bar mount or attaching it to a bike helmet.
on bumpy roads it can be a bit noisy, at least the way i have it attached (right side of head tube)
mostly use it at 720p/60fps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR84_66eib8
at 1080p/30fps you should probably expect some jello effect
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48rStnfPoMQ
also works great in snow which was the thing that really sold me on it.

Wednesday, I dragged myself out into the heat to get the last 13 miles needed to make 500 miles for the month. I planned on taking a 2-3 day break from riding.
Thursday, Lanceoldstrong dragged me out an hour and a half before twilight and squeezed another 25 miles out of me, to get me over the "3,000 miles for the year" mark.
Not much to brag about really, but big numbers for me. :)

Hit 5000 miles for the year on a 63 mile Morgan Territory/Highland Rd loop out from and back into Concord.
Midland came along and we had great fun trading pulls from the bottom of "The Plunge" all the way home.

3000 miles for BBM, 5000 for Lance... That's very serious and amazing mileage!
Umm... Down to earth I just passed 1600 miles for the year this weekend. Meaning I am only 46 miles short for my PR established last year. With close to 3 months remaining I am aiming at 2000 for the year, better yet 2010 to match the calendar. Next year goal at least 2011, then 2012... That's sounds reasonable and doable.

I uset to think when I got too old/feeble/fat/lazy to ride the Mountain, I'd get a Vespa or something. Now I think I'll get a trailer on the beach. Rode up and down Doheny and surroundings in San Clemente and I could definitely adopt that lifestyle.

how you did double centuries with so little riding is beyond me... 10% of your yearly mileage in 1 day!?

Call it jersey lust!
Joking aside I wished I had more base mileage during those doubles. They would have surely made a big difference in the last 50 miles. But I had good company (the best motivator), I chose venues that offered outstanding scenery (keeps the mind from getting bored), and, yes, I fought pain, stomach aches, and a wanting to quit mind for many long miles. I learned to listen to my body and worked with what I had. At the end I felt great about the journey, I never tried to do the best time yet I always had sufficient cushion to beat the time cutoffs even with my spill at ESD. Somedays I wonder if I really did it and how I could do it but, heck, a jersey will soon be in the mailbox.

Garmin says I have 3,512 road miles. I sometimes forget it, so it's really more. I also have a ton of commuter miles.
Those doubles KILL me for days after. I don't know how gpelpel can do what he does. But he's right, it is indeed all about wanting the jersey.

Good to hear I am not alone.
Aside from the darn prostatitis that kept me 4 weeks off the bike after Solvang, the regular after-double symptoms have been feeling weak and shoulder/neck pain that last a bit more than a week. Amazingly lower back and leg pains have been non existent.

It will be coming back on real soon. Racing season is pretty much over and we will be preparing for the Winter Solstice ride in December. Im guessing in the next few weeks, although I know they rode this past weekend out of Los Gatos.

On Saturday I went and rode Levi's Gran Fondo, but did the medio route (~61 miles). I did slightly better than last year, which is great considering how little I've been on the bike this year.

Friday: 31 miles with lights; liberating and very fun. We plan to do this ride at least once a month.
Saturday: 61 miles with a small, tight, experienced group. Very fun, challenging, social and chatty -- just what we needed.
Sunday: Shop ride, but since we had no rank beginners, the pace was 17+ mph, and I rode 43 miles. Cgallagh hung with the hard-cores and racked up 62 miles at the same mph. Those guys are animals. I'm envious.
And all these rides yielded many smile per mile, some great conversations and re-connections. So much fun that we forgot we were supposed to be suffering.

Piccolo route of Levi's GranFondo.
So much fun and easier than last year with a year of riding under my belt. Last year I'd only been on a road bike for a month when I attempted it. My biggest concern though is that 6000 riders is a lot. More than once I got stuck behind the group when it came to a complete stop either due to crashes or just that accordian effect when inexperienced riders slow down to take a corner. It was also the first time I've ever dropped people on a climb. I also got stuck behind people going slower than me when I was unable to pass them safely. Isn't it common sense that if you're riding slowly that you ride to the right and not two abreast taking up an entire lane?
Saw Taylor Phinney out on course, met Levi after the ride, and mildly stalked Patrick Dempsey because I don't think the women at work believed me when I said he was going to be there. I had to get at least one photo to prove it.
I would also like to point out that just because I'm a woman, it doesn't mean I'd recognize Patrick Dempsey when I saw him. All kinds of men kept asking me if I knew where he was because they wanted to get pictures for their "daughter" or their "wife."

I did a local cancer charity ride, 25 miles. However, this year I rode to and from the event to get in extra miles. LBS is closer than I thought and it only added about 7 miles to my total.
We were also rained on a little bit. Oddly, I was hoping for rain because I normally wouldn't choose to ride in it, but I'd like to get some experience on wet roads. If it wasn't for this event, I probably wouldn't have ridden at all today.
I did a huge loop around Lake Chabot today for any of you guys that know it. We left from Willow Park to Brandon to Redtail to Goldenrod and then we did a less-than-legal hot lap on Columbine. A combined 24 miles.
Thank you to anyone who stopped for the crazy kid waving his wheel on the side of the road asking for a pump and thanks to the guy riding the Record-equipped LOOK 550 for the CO2. The ride was great!

Did the LBS ride, aka Beginner, aka Recovery ride today. About 18 miles into it we met the rain, and although the wind died down, the rain was our companion for the rest of the 43 mile ride. One crash (right in front of me; my madd skillz kept me upright) but otherwise not remarkable. Riding in the rain was fun, and I expect the novelty to wear off by the next rainy ride.
Took the CX bike for a ride in Burton Creek above Tahoe City. It had rained earlier but no mud, just settled the dust.

Saturday: A nice 60 from Lafayette, Up to Skyline, down Redwood, through Orinda to Wildcat, up Grizzly and back down Pinehurst. Weather was coolish but nice. Good climbs up Pinehurst and Wlidcat, but Grizzly is always a grind - just goes on and on.
Sunday: MTB: ugh. Mt. Diablo - 2nd time up the horror of Riggs Canyon Rd, to Knobcone and then Oyster Point. Rain Rain Rain. Pretty sure I dislike this route.

On Saturday I rode out to Los Vaqueros from Walnut Creek, 40 miles. Vasco Rd. is a fairly new road with a nice wide shoulder, however you need it as cars travel pretty fast on it. Awesome tailwind though.

Super small, light and fast/snappy. Great quality. Wide lens (24mm equiv).
Unfortunately, it doesn't offer shutter priority. Only program mode. Would be a little easier to consistently get shots like the second one if I could set the shutter speed.
