How about "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" I'm pretty sure that means "I think I'm gonna hurl"
This gives me a great idea for my April Fools blogpost coming up.

68 mi. from Concord to Fairfield and back.Got some time in the wind on rough roads.Very nice day for early Jan., rode most the time in just jersey & UnderArmor base layer.
I rode in circles on Sunday. Literally, around Dumbarton Circle.
Got demolished by the 4's and held my own in the junior's race.
Not a very proud day when you step out of a 40minute race with 5 to go.
Nah, it's all good. Hope to show there myself in a few weeks - you doing the EB RR?

Just got to say I am still lovin' BikeForums. Twitter, Facebook, Strava all have their place and also have all hurt BF traffic a bit I suspect. Just these last 10 entries or so on this thread show why I love this place. Sharing the rides and the love of cycling with the people I have met here. To think that over the last couple years I have ridden with Gpelpel, Beaker, Cccorlew, Bikingshearer, MarcoPolo,Princess Zippy, DiabloScott, Red Rider and Joel S. and here they all are gathered in one place sharing rides and tales.

Still, I read the original post and that was my first thought (having grown up with Catholic/Jewish influences in South Jersey) -- and nobody wants to be chopped livah. :notamused:
Although I'm willing to give Lanceoldstrong the benefit of the doubt; caught up in the moment, he hit "Post" before he proof-read his post. And I haven't been much of a presence on BF lately (I blame work and bike riding for that) and can't blame anyone for overlooking me. :(

To send this thread even farther of the rails, one of the most memorable exchanges I had about 15 years ago with one of my pre-teen sons...
Son, "Dad, how come you're not cool?"
My wife in an attempt to defend my honor, "Your dad used be really cool."
Son, "Really, what happened?"
BTW, now that the aforementioned son is in his mid-20's, I'm a little higher on his "coolness meter" - mostly because I introduced him to some of the great rock'n'roll of my youth that he loves.

Took a ride from Colfax to Gold Run yesterday with my new GoPro "Chesty" chest strap mount. As the first 3:18 of the video shows, it's probably not the best mount for a road ride. Either that, or it's not the best mount for a female cyclist. :p:D;)
The rest of the footage is from the ContourHD on the helmet mount. It would have been a shame to have all that beautiful scenery cut off by the lower POV of the chest mount. It's also a little less shaky.
Somehow the chain catcher got knocked out of position and I didn't notice it, and as a result I dropped my chain when I shifted from the middle to the small chainring. Of course that was caught on video! :D

Yeah, first ride of 2012. The Delta Wind Fest by LanceOldStrong and Co.
Advertised as a 60 miler (accurate), easy 500' of ascent (Garmin shows 612', ok not far), and advertised as a social, "not training environment" ride.
Social, for sure it was. Very friendly bunch, super nice lunch stop, old bridges and quaint scenery. Oh those early miles were so sweet, rolling with ease, frolicking along the canals and marinas, some nice bird sightings, even a couple ferry crossings. The second half was of a different order though, we were not that fast early on, the wind was just that strong behind us. Lance and Steve had actually planned the best practice run in advance of their Death Valley Double in a few weeks: long straight aways and unrelenting head winds. I spent most of this time in no man's land, between small groups, so I really had to fight my way back to the start. The goal was to keep the speedometer above the 10mph mark, that was tough at times but a good motivator.
Thanks all and a special mention to the good samaritan who offered us the chance for a 40' respite 4 miles from the end. :innocent:
Yes, that's what it took for Superman to cover an extra 10 miles against the wind!
For sure it was a great way to start my 2012 rolling adventures. Wind or not I would do it again.

The Delta windfest was as much fun as it was windy. Thank you to Bikingshearer for starting this, LanceOldstrong for the route, Curtis/Tricia for the BBQ, and everyone else for fun & help in the wind. Really pretty in the delta this time of year.Highlights were of course any time the wind was at your back, open roads, variety of birds spotted, Giusti's(ceiling covered in hat's),ferry rides, and lot's of laughs. Good group, thanks for the invite.

An easy 40 miler today from Lafayette to Blackhawk. Last Sunday windy ride was a good training to face today winding trip back to Danville. A little bit of drizzle and one big shower. Thankfully I was crossing downtown Danville when it poured and finding cover was quick. We need the rain so I won't complain much but having the clean the bike is a bummer.
Drove all the way out to Patterson so I could ride up Del Puerto Canyon and break my chain. Good times.

7 hours on the trainer that one time, since you brought it up :twitchy: So by comparison 22 miles in a parking garage was pretty lively.

Well thinking about it, a parking garage is not much smaller, and may be bigger, than a BMX track. Not sure he ever covered 22 miles non stop on such a track though.
Now what they didn't tell us is how many cars they jumped over or used as rebounding boards.

Rode from Newcastle to Foresthill via Hwy 49 and Old Foresthill Road. That meant descending down into the canyon and climbing back out, both ways.
When I got to the bottom of Indian Hill Road I noticed that I'd only ridden 49.4 miles and climbed 4,841'. Unacceptable! I wanted 5,000', so I rode up Chantry Hill Road and the two side streets, then rode through old town Newcastle, dropped down to Taylor Road, and climbed back up to old town via Old State Hwy and Cypress. 51.74 miles and 5,062' of climbing. Much better! :D
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/145804973
Captured on video were two (hopefully) friendly motorists honking as they passed me on climbs up Foresthill Road, and a motorcycle passing me in the dirt on the side of the road. I heard him coming and looked to my left, expecting to see him in the lane. I didn't think to look right, so I didn't see him until he passed me. Startled me a bit!
I tightened the straps on the GoPro "Chesty" chest mount strap, so the video is a little less bouncy.

Here's some more video from last Sunday's ride. Since I also had the ContourHD recording on the helmet mount, I got a different perspective of the descent into the canyon from Auburn. The scenery is more visible, but the speed looks lower due to the camera being higher up.
Since the ContourHD is notorious for excessive wind noise, I added music but left the raw audio in place with lowered volume so it is more natural.
This is the entire first descent into the canyon from Auburn, and the faster part of the second descent down Old Foresthill Road on the return trip.
http://contour.com/stories/hwy-49-and-old-foresthill-road-descents-1-29-12
None of the footage from the return trip was included in the longer ride video I posted earlier, since the video was already long enough and the ride back was rather uneventful. However, I found some good suffer clips from the climb back out of the canyon towards Auburn. The battery on my GoPro died mid-climb, but not before capturing the best suffering on the whole climb. :D
I edited out all the loud motor vehicle traffic, so the audio is all suffering. It's short and sweet. I like this one because the chest mount gives the viewer a much better idea of the difficulty of a climb. The more rocking and heavy breathing, the harder the climb. :D

http://vimeo.com/36041423
At the end of the ride in Newcastle, I stopped to take the picture of the antique store sign and I spotted a kitty across the street, so naturally I had to make friends with her. The ContourHD was still recording, so enjoy the sounds of her adorable purr-meows (turn up the volume!).

Yesterday was some dirty fun. It was my first mtb ride in 15 years.
I took my brand-new Trek Wahoo Disc 29 up to Auburn for some climbing and descending bliss. These are some of my favorite trails from the good old days back in 1992-1993.
All of these trails have technical sections to keep things interesting. For those not familiar with the Auburn trails, I'll give the details.
The first trail is Clementine (http://www.fatrac.org/node/637). It starts at the bottom of the canyon by the American River and climbs up to the next trailhead (Fuel Break). Clementine starts out as doubletrack, narrows to singletrack for a while, then widens to doubletrack again as it climbs.
Fuel Break climbs for about 1/2 mile, descends for 1/4 mile, climbs again, then descends to the next trail, Culvert (http://www.fatrac.org/node/638). Culvert drops down to Old Foresthill Road.
Confluence (http://www.fatrac.org/node/639) is the really fun downhill that starts at the OHV parking area. After I finished that one, the real suffering began. I started up the short steep part at the beginning of Stagecoach Trail (http://www.fatrac.org/node/640), but instead of making the left turn at the first switchback, I accidentally overshot it and continued on to the next switchback. When the grade got steeper instead of leveling off somewhat like it's supposed to, I started to wonder if the trail got re-routed in the last 15 years.
I spun out a few times and had to restart. Great fun! Other times my front wheel lifted off the ground, forcing me to stop. I was starting to wonder if I was going to have to walk this one, but I eventually made it all the way up by pedal power.
Where I ended up was the top of the Ridgeview trailhead. I went back down and explored some trails off of the steep climb. Found another short steep climb, and after several tries I made it up that one. Picking the right line was absolutely essential with this one. It was technical and covered with pine needles.
I went back to my truck to get more water (gonna have to get a Camelbak, I guess), and started up Stagecoach again. This time I didn't miss the turn-off. After the steep part, the trail leveled off and there was very little suffering for the remainder of the climb. Near the top I saw a group of hikers heading down. One of the women said "Good job!" (you can hear it in the video), and I thanked her.
After that climb I continued climbing on the pavement on Russell Road, then turned around and enjoyed the descent back down Stagecoach.
I'm going to have to remove the spacers and slam the stem to cut down on the front wheel coming off the ground on steep climbs.

Here's the video. It's raw footage, so my standard heavy breathing audio warning applies.

I did the Knights Ferry road race on Saturday with my husband, the first road race either of us has done. We've done that mileage - twice that mileage - in a day, but never as fast as we could possibly go, without stopping. I didn't have the best of luck - I got stung by a bee and had one of those stickers get in my front tire, so I realized after the race I had a slow leak in the front - but without my Gatorskins, it probably would have been a full-on flat, so I'm grateful for those.
It was an eye-opening experience, and we decided we had to do a good solid ride with a lot of climbing yesterday to start to get our bodies ready for the Sea Otter; we both stupidly signed up for races on consecutive days, so we need to get our bodies used to it.
^^ RG I'd recommend starting to do some your nearest faster club rides ahead of Sea Otter, those can definitely help motivate and get closer to race like intensity.

Warning: Graphic pics ahead!
Yesterday I rode another one of my old favorites, the Salmon Falls Trail in El Dorado County. This was only my second real mtb ride in 15 years. The first one was in Auburn last weekend (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/223496-weekend-ride-reports-where-d-ya-ride?p=13815070&viewfull=1#post13815070).
This trail seemed more difficult than the ones I did in Auburn, due to how technical it is. I intended to climb the 2 mile long Flagstaff Hill, but I overshot the trail leading to it.
On the way out I saw people walking and resting on a climb, so I knew this would be a good climb on the way back. Sure enough, it made me live up to my username! :D I made it all the way up without walking or resting. I did pick a wrong line and stall out once, but I restarted and continued on.
I saw another cyclist with a GoPro on his helmet. He was riding with a friend. They noticed my chest-mounted GoPro and that sparked a good conversation. One of the guys was riding a hybrid with 700x35c tires!
On the way back I saw a lot of dog walkers and petted a few dogs. Then the hamfist of the day occurred when I attempted to descend the most ridiculously technical section of trail I've ever encountered. It was a slow-speed crash too. Yes, it was caught on video! :D

Video is 100% natural sound, so my standard heavy breathing on climbs audio warning applies!

Sign I should have heeded, at least on the descent. I had no problem cleaning this climb, but the descent was another story!

The aftermath. It wasn't as bad as it looks, just a few scrapes.
