Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I can now finally ride in this beautiful weather. I am sooooo stoked that my bike is at least rideable(I can't do much more than xc due to some mech difficulties with my current fork)...But in 1 month my upgrading will be complete...So far I have
1 - new disc brakes - Hayes Hydros rule
2 - new drivetrain
3 - new pedals (Axiom worht 100$ cdn and I got discounted to 39)
4 - seatpost
5 - stem
6 - grips...whoever designed ODI grips should get a reward for one of the best things in mtb imo)
In one month I will have
1 - new wheelset built on Tank hubs with a 20mm front end
2 - Marz 2002 Z1 fr
3 - New tires (haven't decided yet but probably michelins)
Sunshine is here and snow is going going gone...(I hope)

sounds pretty sweet man your lucky
it's warming up here; snow is startin to melt another month and the trails will be perfect to ride.
what Axiom pedels did u get? And what are u riding?
Suckers! I've been riding all year :D
On the Michelin tire comment... Michelin rocks. I've yet to ride a tire by them (Whether its for my car or bike) that I didn't absolutely love. I have a set of Jet S and XLS tubeless that are two sets of my favorite tires. Michelin ownz.

As for a couple of questions...
1 - I ride a Kona Roast ht
2 - I don't actually know the pedal name. Flats, sealed bearings very smooth and a cupped pedal for the feet...very nice.
And Jim....you are a very lucky person :)

Sorry i didn't mean to offend an intellectual such as yourself. I'll try to keep my post gramatically correct so i don't offend you any more than i already have. As far as staying on topic if someone lists compnents that they have i think that is well on topic to ask about them.

Maelstrom that's a really nice set up. If my bike wasnt specificly for racing i probably wouldnt go much more that lx compo's.

I am considering going to XT...but really an Deroe/LX drive train should be more than good enough for me. If I ever get into racing I would do the upgrade but really, I am a casual rider who likes to go hard and am willing to sacrifice weight for this 250pound body :)

I just upraded some parts to LX...I noticed a huge increase in quality over Deore. When they die I will go to XT...but I seriously can't see myself ever going to xtr...:)
With sram coming out with rapid fire I may even consider going to that...just for ****s and giggles :)

My last bike was XT/XTR with only the rear derailleur being the XTR part. My current bike is full XTR. Honestly, I can't tell a difference in performance. If any of my XTR stuff breaks, I'll replace it with XT. I'm not a weight wienie, so the few less grams means nothing to me.

Good to know A2...Thats the most honest sounding review of XTR I have heard...not to steal my own thread but did you even get the special shifter brake combo? And if so how did it work? :)

No, I'm running Hayes Hydros on my bike, so I've got the seperate shift pods.
However, I did take a new bike out for a quick ride. It's wierd having a combo shifter. It would take some getting used too, probably about 15 minutes. The thing I don't like, is that is you break one, you have to replace the whole shifter/lever combo. Could be costly.
I know the argument that road bikes have had this combo for years, but my reply to that is, "How often do you crash on your road bike compared to the number of times on your mountain bike." Heck, I've yet to crash on my LeMond road bike (knock wood), but crashed 4 times last time I went mtn biking!
I'll stick to seperate shifter pods and brake levers!

xtr sucks. the 2003 xt cranks are only 620 grams the 2003 xtr are 7 something. in most cases xt is lighter.

Nice build
my stumpy hardT came with 223's. I bashed the rear in almost a month and then replace it with 221, aftermarket i think there the same, and went through 3 more. i finally upgraded to XT on mavic 517's and have been running that for more than a year now. i have not had any problems and they stay True and believe me they have been abused. You dont have to replace it now but i would upgrade the rims to 517's when it's time.
I've just got a set of kings on 517's (used) and am really looking forward to abusing these also. I'm going to have to replace the rear rim soon but i'm just going to replace it with another 517.
