Hi,
I went into my LBS to make the last payment. They have put on the big pieces; and are waiting for a couple of the small ones. It's gorgeous.
It's all titanium grey and black. The tires, rims, and fork are solid black. I was stunned.
I don't yet entirely believe it's mine. But it sure reflects my taste. When it gets done; I am hoping a friend of mine who is good with computer stuff will put a pic of it on the internet. I bought this great little Union generator light for the bike. It mounts to the center brake hole on the fork. or it was supposed to. The mechanic pointed out that he couldn't get it to work with the fenders on. Bummer. This is a general purpose touring/commuting/grocery shopping/whatever bike.
Who am I kidding. Fenders make sense; not having fenders increases a bicycle's toy quotient.....a lot. In any case, I need to drop back and punt. Maybe my wife would like that light on her bike.
I have named my bike. The frame is an Airborne Carpe Diem. Nixon was President when I was a kid; and like millions I came to hate him. 'Carpe Diem' is latin for 'seize the day'; and was Nixon's motto. You guessed it, I am going to be planting my butt on Nixon every day.

I'm shuddering at the image. |8^)

When I was growing up, my parents would always drag my brother and I to these asian grocery stores in the Near-North area of Chicago. I grew to hate those stores. They seemed to spend hours in there and I often got really bored in there... plus the smell was aweful. Almost always I would inevitably get bored of wandering around the store and ended up sitting on a bag of rice near the front of the store waiting to leave. A common brand of rice was Nishiki. Many years later, in 1990, I went to purchase my first serious mountain bike and ended up with... can you guess? A Nishiki Ariel. Is there any way I can still sue my parents for the therapy bills?

you put fenders on a high-performance, high-octane, drop dead sexy, titanium bike?! Women and adolecent boys who would normally would faint at the sight of a gorgeous titanium bike, will just pass it by saying, jeez, another one of those loser fender bikes :)

Hi,
you know, I wouldn't mind that. Maybe the thieves will see those fenders and walk away. You think? Anyway, in a week or so, the snow will have retreated enough that I can do a little riding. Then for next few weeks, if it's not cold and wet, it's dry and dusty. All that salt and sand they sprayed all over the road all winter, its still there. It's waiting for me to inhale it, and it wants to infest every nook and cranny, of bike and body. Blecch.. Yeah, fenders are a good idea, at least around here.

Same here. Too bad I don't follow good ideas. Maybe riding in mud as a mountain biker has conditioned me to just shrug off the muck and it's more of laziness and expense that keeps me from installing fenders than it is vanity. OTOH, if I was actually commuting (I work from home), then fenders would probably appear on my bike. However, there are many people who ride around here rain-or-shine and in the middle of winter, that often means rain more than shine. On any given Sunday, you can easily find high-zoot roadbikes out on the roads with full fender kits. Most are of the quick-release plastic variety but some even have the metal ones that attach to the rack-mount eyelets. Hey, who cares what it looks like as long as it allows you to get out and ride.

Hi,
well, he can stop turning. I got to finally ride it yesterday; and I just love it. So I am going to give it a better name. I wanted to to take the touring bike idea; but keep the performance lively. In that regard I succeeded, curious to see how I'll hold up on longer rides.
