Mountain Biking - Road Trip Destinations?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Was reading the latest issue of BIKE magazine and the editors went on a 20 day road trip.
Where would you go? What are some of the spot you would want to drive to?
Me?
I love riding in Pisgah, NC, then over to CO, hit Moab and up to Tahoe. From there if I still had time and money, I'd keep going to B.C. and visit Maelstrom.
Ya I would probally have to pack up and go to BC with some friends its so nice there.

Hi,
pick a town that would serve as a really good place for a day off the bike.
I like Camden Maine, Middlebury Vermont, North Conway NH. They are all walkable, have good restaurants and a movie theater.
All you have to do is to make a trip with that as a stop somewhere in the middle. For example, you could ride around Lake Champlaign. Which is a real nice ride. You could fly into Portland Maine and ride up to Acadia National Park and fly out of Bangor. I have some suggestions if you do. From Conway there is the Kancamangus, the White Mountains, northern NH with perhaps a jaunt into
Canada.
Every year in August we take about a week and do a ride like that.

Heck yeah! Pick up different people along the way. End up with a 10 vehicle caravan by the time we pull up to Mael's house!

You guys should plan this for next may june ;) :D...I know gastro was here and he had a blast. I would have to stock up on steaks for sure :)
OK, here's the deal; you guys gotta swing the caravan through Spokane. From here, it should go north to Nelson, BC, then over to the wet side to catch Galbraith Mtn at Bellingham for a warmup and finally wind up on Maelstrom's doorstep at Whistler. Ahh, I could really see this taking shape . . .

This (http://www.sportsmobile.com/3_bikes.html) is the van model the Bike mag folks took on their road trip, pretty cool.

I am going to New River West Virginia this weekend. It is pretty good for the eastern part of the states.
Quite a few trails to hit and the scenery is great..

I'm looking forward to some trails I know in the Pocono area of Pennsylvania. They're nothing extreme, but moderate long old logging trails around some lakes and through heavily wooded areas.
A very peaceful ride in nature.
I have a trip planned for Utah, but may have to push it back to next May.

I was in Pa back in May and these are a couple of the shots from around the lake.
