I am ready for this ride to begin.
Same here. I want this workweek to end already so that we can go riding.

Are any of you planning on warming up before starting? Did I read the routeslip correctly, that we start climbing after just 1 mile?
Warm up before starting? I have something like 104 miles to ride. The last thing I want to do is to tack on more mileage.
But yes, the main climb is after a mile. If that bothers you, you might consider warming up some. If it doesn't bother you, just take it easy on the climb and warm up on the climb.

Yeah, for me there's a fine line between warming up and using up the energy I'm going to need to finish. I do like the sound of warming up, but I think I'll just plan on warming up by spending the first few minutes of the climb going VERY slowly.

I'm going to try and spin a couple of miles before the start. My legs don't work cold.

You guys can always bring a stationary trainer for a quick warm up.

I'm going to start at mile 90 so I'll have a 14 mile warmup.
Got my packet today as well. I haven't done an organized ride like this in..oh...27 years, Back in the old days, we didn't have closed roads, rest stops with food provided, numbers, wristbands, etc. Usually didn't even know what the route was until we got there in the morning. So...I'm assuming number in back (opposite of running) as well as the wristband. God, I'm going to hate that wristband...those things always start itching (note to self to put BodyGlide on the arm before I put it on).
My 10 yr old Specialized floor pump is leaking, so I guess it's over to Performance tomorrow at lunch to pick up a new one (at least it's double points).
Good question. I have not a clue. What do we do with the number and wristband and stuff?

Pin the number to the back of your jersey and put the wristband on your wrist. I'll leave the wristband until last minute.

The wristband is for the pictures? Can't I just put it in my handlebar bag? I really don't want to wear that all day - those things are irritating.

the number is usually for the pics; the wristband is so that the volunteers know you are a rider when you show up at the rest stops to get food... ya gotta wear it ;) Don't worry, you'll be so distracted by the ride that you won't even notice the thing... at least that's how it is for me :D

I was referring to Tiffiane!!
It is Dave's first. I believe Tiff's also.
I believe they'll do great. Having a group along to encourage them will help some. Most of the climbing is early in the ride, and late in the ride, the group will be there to encourage them on.

The numbers go on your brainbox (http://www.bacchettabikes.com/recumbents/accessories/brainbox.htm). I figured you guys would know that by now. :)

The poway grade is closed to traffic. You need the wrist band to ride that portion of the ride. If you put the band over your gloves, instead of your wrist ift should not be as annoying.
Personally, I don't understand why you need a wrist band if you also have bib/number pinned to your jersey. My guess is so that they can identify a rider from the front.

Where is everyone meeting? I did the metric mostly on my own last year and would like to hookup with a train if possible.
Thanks,
Ian

We're not sure about the meeting part yet. We'd love for you to join us, but don't get your hopes up too much with a train. We may be more like the line of shopping carts being pushed back to the front door of the store.

That's alright, I'm not exactly nimble climbing... besides, it's better to suffer with others than by yourself.

where do you get this stuff???
Ok, for those of you who are _WHINING_ about the climb, I'll be out there on a recumbent, so shush... :)
Got my packet in the mail today, number 3140. It had the release form, route slip, coupon, and number with some pins. Didn't see a wrist band.

Yes, but it will be cool when the ride starts - probably high 50's to low 60's, with patchy fog in the forecast.

Yay. That actually sounds perfect seeing as you hit a climb almost right away. Though descending into Ramona might be a bit cold. Hmm... decisions decisions...

if you're cold in the parking lot, I'm sure you'll get warmed up on the first climb.
81* in poway means it will be 75*ish on the coast

I may go with short sleeves for poway, rather than my usual sleeveless ensemble.
Funny thing is, I don't own a decent SS jersey. Better hit Performance today.
Volt, wanna meet for lunch and Performance? I don't mind heading down to the Laguna Hills store....

Sure. It's been 24 hours. I'm due. What did you have in mind for food?

I knew it would take you < 3 minues to reply.
No preference on the food. Your call. Can we make it around 12:30? That way I can get some work done. And, I've gotta walk home and get the car.

Works for me. I think I can keep myself busy posting until then. Meet at Performance, then food after? And are you going to buy a Poway jersey?

I'll be starving by then. Maybe food first? Is there a place close to Performance? I'm not picky.
Yeah, I definitely need tires for Melissa and a jersey for Poway. Wait: you meant buy a jersey at the ride, I think. Not sure. I definitely need a SS one, so I may get both. I did order SS BF jerseys, so that will help.

There's Togo's and Wendy's in the same plaza as Performance. Laguna Hills Mall is one exit before.

One days like this, the climbing the Poway grade can be quite misty and the ground may be wet. Hopefully the fog is not too thick.
My ride in this morning at 7am was very foggy and I had a layer of mist all over the bike and my jersey.
I am probably going to stick with a short-sleeve jersey and arm warmers. I hate dragging a raincover around for another 90 miles.

Sold!
I suspect the coldest part of the ride will be the descent into Ramona. You're not going to feel that cold climbing at the beginning. But afterward, when hitting 40+ MPH, it may feel awfully cold. I think I'll be carrying knee warmers, arm warmers, and full finger gloves for the descent.

I am more worried about getting wet than the temperature. You can always ride faster to stay warm ;)
Hopefully the fog is not too thick near the top of the climb. I have climbed the hills in and around Poway in the fog before. Near the top of the grade it can feel more like a light rain / mist.
