Anyone have this bike or comments about it? I am looking for a commuter/road bike. I go to and from work and do a lot of paved bike trails (up to 20 miles total). I think road bikes are too fragile for me and my riding. I am looking for a very fast bike with wider tires. I am 260 lbs so i think i want a hybrid and this one caught my eye. What do you guys think? How fast is it? Is it a good bike?

I am looking for no suspension, fast bike that can handle some urban abuse. Max $650. Could a trek 1000 handle this? Thanks

I'm 240lbs.

I commute everyday with my Schwinn road bike. And I rode it hard.

No problems so far.

I have the SU100 (without the disc brakes,) and I love it, absolutely the best bike purchase I've made in years. I got it for $400, and upgraded the saddle to a Brooks, the bars to trekking bars, and added a rack. The stock tires are extremely tough and good for light trail use. I use it %100 on road for commuting to work and school, so I put on some 26x1.25 tires and some fenders, so the bike is pretty fast. With lights and all the other extras I added, the bike is still well under $600, for "Clydesdales" like us, I would highly recommend this bike.

Thanks for the responses. I am still up in the air about the su200. Are there any other fast bikes with flat bars?

I own a Trek Su200, and love it. But the big difference between it and most other road bikes is the wheel size. The trek has a mountainbike wheel size (26"), most others have road bike wheels (700c). Other bikes to look at with 26" are Bianchi Sparta, Kona Smoke, Marin Novato, or perhaps just a mountainbike with light supension and put on slicks. The other end includes The Trek FX series, Kona Dew, Marin commuter series, Jamis Coda and such. The Trek SU200 is a good pick, but just check out your options.

How about a Novara Big Buzz (700c) or Buzz (26"). My '03 Big Buzz is NOT A COMFORT BIKE and pretty rugged.

I toured 1700 miles on an SU200 this summer, and it was good. But for my commuter I bought an SU100. It was easier to find a rack without the disk brakes of the 200, plus it was cheaper and I like the flat silver color of the 100 better. Also, the 2007 Su100 and 200 come with super nice leather saddles -- way better than the cheapo one they came with in 2006.

I recommend it to you if you really want the disk brakes, but if not the SU100 is just as good.

You might want to look at a Scott Sub 30 http://www.scottusa.com/product.php?UID=9788

I bought one earlier this year and think it's a great bike.

Check out the KHS Urban-Xtreme. It is basically a road bike with a flat bar. This equates to a fast riding bike, but smooth on the road!
