i've got the daunting task coming up of having to change my rear brake cable on my felt.

its routed through the top tube and i've got no idea how i'm going to do it. google wasn't too helpful. anybody have any tips or know an online guide?

Inquire about this over on the Mechanics Forum as well. I did that last year when I had to do my brake and shift cables on my Kestrel. It boils down to this, on the free end of the cable, the end you just took out of the brake caliper, feed a long section of brake housing onto the cable and feed it through the hole as you're pulling the cable out, reverse the process when re-installing. No sweat.

Why on earth would any self respecting man want their LBS to do work on their bike that there is an enormous amount of satisfaction and learning to be gained from doing it yourself with a simple set of tools???
Make the commitment to learn about the piece of hardware that you spend countless hours per year on top of. When something fails, you'll be able to recognize the problem and potentially deal with it rather than cry like a little sissy while stranded miles from home.
Or, just take it to the LBS and try to keep a stiff upper lip while you explain to the technician the simple problem you're having and that you are utterly incapable of fixing it yourself. Then wait 5 days to get it repaired and pay good money that could otherwise be spent on other cool bike parts, or could be spent on taking a lovely young lady out to dinner that can admire a guy that can conquer his own problems.
