Southern California - We need a Caligurl forum...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hardly anyone in Southern California is a California native!! I'm a transplant from CT.
What would the caligurl forum be about? Would it be stories about caligurl? Reflections on the nature of caligurl-ness? Responses to all things caligurl? Ways in which we've been inspired by caligurl? WWCD: What Would Caligurl Do? Caligurl answers your questions about life, the universe and everything? Shopaholic tips from caligurl? Extreme online discussion forum-ing with caligurl.....
Were it not for the RED STAR topic, I might have dragged my PayPal-ing feet longer. Kudos to caligurl for the inspiration.

We lived in Santa Ana when I was born at Camp Pendleton 50 years ago.
The part that sucks is that I'm back in Santa Ana!

I was born at the Naval Hospital in 1959.
I was born at the Naval Hospital in 1959.
[edit]
If there's only one hospital their then we were born in the same place, just a few years apart! My dad was stationed at El Toro and LTA in my younger years and my family never moved from Santa Ana until we were all out of the house.
How about you?
OC native here too. I have ALWAYS lived within six miles of where I am right now, with exception being given to a brief time I resided in the Phoenix metro area and decided it was too freaking hot. Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach have been my home forever.

How about you?Same hospital. I think it's gone now and the new one is considered old. My dad was stationed at Camp Pendleton until he retired in the early '70s. I've lived in Oceanside almost all of my life.

I lived WAY upstate--in the St. Lawrence River Valley, north (!) of the Adirondacks for seven years, and in Troy NY for eleven years. Brooklyn native, BTW. I moved to SoCal in 1997.
My wife is a native Californian. We have "discussions" about what is, and is not, Winter.

I'm old and even I was born here - in Los Angeles and moved to OC when I was 10. My father was also born in California (Sacramento area). Trust me, lots of people are born here everyday! So we really dont need anymore folks moving here... even though the weather is awesome and cycling the best... just stay were you are... thank you!

At the age of 54, I still live in the house I came home from the hospital when I was born. I bought it from my parents 32 years ago, and the best I can tell, I'll die here.
So. Cal. Rocks!!!

Born at Fort MacArthur. Lived in Lakewood for a little over a year, then moved to Garbage Grope. Since my dad was Navy, we did do a little time in NorVa, but he got a transfer back to LosAl and we were able, after a short time, to move back into the old house in GG, where we lived until the early '80s. In Anaheim now.
I miss caligurl
I wonder if she still road rides. I don't see their names on ride lists anymore. I think the last time i saw her was at Mulholland Challenge a couple ears ago.

I miss her, too. I last saw her at the Angeles Crest Century the year before the Station fire, or maybe it was at Cruisin the Conejo after that. She was riding well at the AC century. I think her husband stopped riding, though.
I also miss roadfix and M.E. and the fun rides she used to put together.
Wow, I can't believe this thread got resurrected from the dead! Have we all really been here that long? My last post to this thread was in Aug of 06! So many people no longer on the forums or migrated from the mothership to others. Good ole Cali.....hope she is still having fun out in the desert. Or maybe they moved someplace else.

I'd miss caligurl, but I never met her...she must have had good smilies...:)
I have met caligurl, several times in fact, at various SoCal rides. And she does have a beautiful smile (and smilies).
The tragic bit is that I've never met Alice Strong!
Someday we'll have a fixed gear ride together . . .

I agree Rick..I have met and ridden with cali and her hubby a few years ago....both super nice...
and I too have never met Alice, but probably passed each other on SGRT!
Last time I ran into her was at Cruising a number of years ago, then at Cool Breeze I believe. I've ridden down in Palm Springs area a bunch of times since then and always keep an eye out. Don't know if I'd recognize her now.

I think we should organize a "Let's Meet Alice" ride . . . what do you think? Seems like there are several of us here who have never met Alice Strong.
Is SART a good place? Of course I would vote for GMR/GRR, but I've heard she doesn't like to climb mountains. Not sure if this is true or not though.

I think that you first need to confirm that she truly exists. Has anyone met Alice Strong? Her name makes me believe that she is a Super Hero. I continually check the SGRT for someone with a cape and a mask. It would be fun to go on a ride with a Super Hero.

No worries LawnChair,
I have a close personal friend who has met Alice and says she does really exist. No cape though. Well, not that I've seen.
The "Strong" part I thought was like Lance's LiveStrong or that other charity (which one?) that uses RideStrong.
I am friends with Alice on facebook, so I'm fairly certain that she really does exist. Never met her though . . .

Wow, a genuine nostalgia fest! Sounds like one of us needs to organize a 'reunion' ride of sorts. Santa Monicas?

Santa Monica is a bit of a drive for me, but sure, that sounds good. I was thinking SART since I've heard Alice doesn't like to climb mountains.
I love to climb, so no worries there! My fading memory tells me caligurl's name was Linda Elliot and her husband was Chris. Can someone confirm or revise?
