Fifty Plus (50+) - 50+'rs Very Technical Wrenching Language

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

50+'rs Very Technical Wrenching Language

As mature, advanced cyclists, the 50+ forum is developing a precise and unique language relating to wrenching on our bikes. I offer the following from a recent thread. Do you have any more to offer?:D

50+ "wrench" vocabulary:

pre-fiddling stage

inner axle widget thingy

grab the inner nut with a pair of pliers

hammer and cold chisel

two widgets

some sort of BMX thing

HOLE

*!@$ing front wheel

fiddling, fiddling with the stuff inside the fork

closed circular aperture

squitty puncture repair kit chalk stick

I'm betting Stepfam has one from his side, had a guy tell me from England when I fixed an old SVEA stove, that I "Fettled It Pretty Good"...

He wouldn't say "wrench," he'd say "spanner.":)

Always remember to make sure every nut a bolt on your bike is Tight, or Really Tight, but nothing should ever be F(ully) tight, or Really F(ully) tight. And if you must stike something on your bike, just use a Hammer, not a Big Hammer, or a Big F*****g Hammer.

As I youhg lad I worked in a Schwinn shop with an old guy who had more knowledge about bikes in his little finger than I'll ever have. One of his favorite expressions, or at least often used...
Hand me that 'what cha call it' next to the 'thig a ma jig' over there on the bench.
