Rides and Races - the portland thread.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In response to the question of "what do your bikes look like." Well here's what my bike (that's actually rideable) (and I) looked like for a bit today. I rode out there and rode back. It was pretty great until the ride back which was brutally long for my race weary legs.

No I've only been to the last 3 races, I raced in two of them. So I haven't gotten much of a chance to meet people. Cross is pretty much the most fun I've ever had on a bike though.

for not having brakes? Funnily enough, the cops don't really seem to **** with you when your ride your brakeless fixed gear bike around wearing tights, a helmet, and a bright green safety neon commuter jacket. I am so not hip :(
As far as bar spins. I still need to perfect my wheelies before I start ****ing w/ those things.

I left my backpack on the side of the road after checking out a pile of free stuff(it's not stolen, someone just thought it was free). It was on SE 51st, in between Woodward(bike route) and Tibbetts. It had a bunch of bike parts in it, including a new Formula silver track hub. If anyone hears about someone finding this, please let me/them know.
Other stuff in the bag included brown + pink Dia Compe hoods, a tube of Phil grease, a new chain, a few brake cables and some housing. It was also full of groceries, so if you or someone you know gets ahold of it please refrigerate my blue cheese and daikon radishes.

This thread has gone far too long with out a post.
I interview next week with a company in downtown so if all goes well I'll be rolling in PDX full time (sorta, the job requires lots of travel) next month. Which could not come soon enough... Salem has no redeeming qualities and makes me yearn for Corvallis... if that was at all possible. Seriously, how did Salem become so anti-bike especially when surrounded by Portland, Corvallis, and Eugene... all bike friendly cities.

I'm going to Dante's for some rock and ****ing roll tonight, the black lips and the hunches = a good time. It's only 5 bucks. I think doors are in 40 minutes.... not like that means anything though.

I finished moving to Portland on Friday. :)
My bmx is fully dialed but my current track bike is in pieces in the closet.
I need to get some things before it will be back together. Most likely I will have the fixed together by the end of next weekend but for sure within two weeks.
I sold my other fixed to a buddy ( been my daily ride for the past year) and am using the cash to finish the other.

Anyone ever had a fixie stolen here?
One thing I notice looking on the bikeportland stolen bike listings is that the overwhelmingly grand majority of bikes on there were stolen unlocked or cable locked...
...i caught the plague from my girlfriend, and my skin hurts too much to ride a bike right now.
your SKIN HURTS?
i think i might also have the plague too though. i've been super achey and go from overheated to chills in a matter of minutes. the non-thumb sides of my palms are sore as hell for some resaon, my right leg felt like it was going to fall off last night, and i'm constantly feeling light headed
anyone go out wednesday? was so so so nice out. but the temp dropped the second the sun did

I would say there should be a sat. night ride tonight but LIGHTNING BOLT trumps all y'all any day of the week. Not that I ever went to one anyways, but it would be fun to see who is actually on this board.
i was too tired tonight and never got in touch with braingel or Jake (does he post on here? i dont remember)
next week?

Hey Portland people! I'm moving in August, and your city is at the top of my list. If you don't mind, I have a few questions.
First of all, I'm not sure which portion of the city I should move to. The location would optimally be near the light rail, in a vibrant area filled with music venues, bars, microbrews, book stores, coffee shops, libraries, etc. It seems downtown or SE are the places for that; what are your feelings on those two areas?
Also, what's your impression of Lewis & Clark? I may be applying to their law school for environmental law.
Thanks!

they have to many kids in tight pants riding track bikes already
I'd say stick to the east, relatively close in NE (alberta, mississippi streets, stuff like that) or SE (Hawthorne, Division). But to be honest every where you go except for the farther out places are going to have everything you're looking for

L&C is a good school. My gf is going there for law this fall. There environment law is #1 in the nation.
Also, the "light rail" aka the Max doesn't go into SE Portland proper.

nor SW where L&C is.
To delicious: If you bike for transport then being close to the max is pretty pointless unless you have some weird, alien desire to go to the burbs (barf).

Hey! I also may be moving out there. I have a job interview with a pretty cool org, but I've never once been there. If yall don't mind may I ask:
--How much is a studio or 1BR?
--You can get by fine without a car, right? Is there a car share (zipcar, etc) type of program?
--Are there good roads for roadie-style riding?
--Is there a velodrome nearby?
--Is there good hiking/camping that I can hitchhike to?
--How much is a pint of microbrew at a friendly bar?
Etc etc etc. Thanks for tips!
