Rides and Races - fixed cleveland

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

bumped. just moved back to cleveland. if you think there's not a lot going on now, just think about 4 years ago. 7 years ago was pretty cool, many more messengers, some alleycats here and there, and general good time. but 3-4 years ago there was NOTHING really to speak of. it's getting a little better, for sure.
if you see a beardo with some 50s track bikes, that's me. say hello.

don't think i don't know that, i was born and raised here! i watched a WVIZ show a long time ago about why they changed the spelling, but i don't exactly remember. how are those wednesday night things? i used to ride them with the RLR (cemetary riders for life!) back when they first started. they definitely didn't have a cool name like bicycle mayhem, but there were some fun drunken sprints through abandoned buildings and what not. the absolute best was when we got into the old subway system underneath the detroit-superior bridge!
have fun at the alleycat with the 45mph winds. i'll be warm and cozy drinking beer at a costume party on the east side somewhere.

what up, I'm new to BF/fixed gear/etc.
I live in Philly but I'm from Cleveland and didn't realize there was a messenger/alleycat/fixed scene over there. looks cool.
anyone have a map of where this Cars R Coffins race went? (checkpoints I guess?) I watched the videos but I can't really tell from them.

well the weather is getting nice, and i was wondering if anyone here was interested in trying to kickstart the wendsday night rides from public square, last summer there was a good 4-7 people turning up for them but that all seemed to die off by the end of fall..it would be nice to have that again..so if you interested holla back..you know.

this has nothing to do with fixed gear however,
if you're on the east side, or anything, this week you should go check out my roomate Kate's B.F.A. display @ C.I.A. on the 4th floor studio 416, she's the best painter there
thats all

I just moved back to the burbs from Montreal and don't know anyone, so I'd be up for any rides that go down.
Also, is there a decently fixed-friendly bike shop around?

which burb are you in? I'm only in town for a few days so I'm not gonna help you with that meeting people part, but if you want to ride let me know.

as far as bike shops i would suggest shaker cycle in tremont or spin in lakewood, they're about as close as you're gonna get,
rides: as of late last fall Bicycle Mayhem was still going on every wensday night from public square, around 7:30pm, i don't know of its status now, couple of kids have told me its still going on, i was thinking of popping down there tomorrow myself to see if thats true
to my knowledge no sign of any races, the guy who put on the cars-r-coffins race (brian and his special lady) are due for a baby in the next week or so.. but he was saying after all that said and done maybe one by the end of summer

I'm in Avon Lake, far West side. As much as it seems stupid to put my bike in my car and drive somewhere to ride, I have a feeling it's probably my only option for riding with people.

This doesn't really have anything to do with a ride or race, but ...Now That's Class! gives out a free beer to anyone who rides their bike up there on Thursday night (hosted by a tattoo shop...Voodoo Monkey I think). Anyway, you get to choose whatever kind of beer you want you want (from a 40 oz Steel Reserve to any Great Lakes brew). Not a bad deal is you ask me. Plus, if you're broke you can drink cheap Black Label for the rest of the night after your freebie.
