Im thinking about heading out to the west coast in about 6 weeks to visit a friend of mine, and I had a few questions:
Is it worth going now, or should I wait till December when Im 21?
Weather in mid-october?
Worth shipping my bike for five days? or can I rent one somewhere?
What is there to do out there, I've never been

There is always biking, that's fun.
Wait until 21 if you are a beer aficionado, and it is important to you to be out while drinking. The weather is always a bit of a crap shoot, but it's a safe bet there will be more rain in December. I like biking to coffee shops and working on my laptop/reading, and you can do that just about anywhere because we are serious about coffee shops. If you have heard the name of the cofee shop before, don't go (Starbucks, Seatles best, whatever).

+1...
there's a lot to do here for fun. but if you're over 21. being under 21...i've been here since i was 21, so i have no first-hand experience, but there's not a lot of all-ages music, there are good bars all over, and there's **** like the laurelhurst theater, where you can watch a movie while pounding back pbrs.
