I haven't looked in the dictionary lately. And I am not a doctor or pharmacist. But what I want to hear from you -- is your description of the difference between diet supplementation and drug usage.

I think that some supplements are actually drugs. I think that if you take "large doses" of certain supplements they are just like drugs.

What do you think?

Hi,
it's not a question with a simple answer. Viamins, in large doese, can have drug-like effects. OTOH, it has become common to prescribe a fairly large dose of vitamin E. More to the point, what do you mean by drug? Because your question seems to lump vitamins in with crack cocaine. That is kinda silly.

I think you may be confusing toxicity with drug like symptoms which I would consider more addiction and its related side effects( building up a tolerance to its effects and craving more and more to get the same effects and instead getting unwanted side effects).Any substance will be harmful(toxic)if taken in too large an amount. Many of those same substances are absolutally essential to human life in a more moderate amount.I would say refined sugar has much more drug like effects than the average vitimin and mineral in fact they are currently doing studies on this very issue.

Good point about Vitamin E! I wanted to hear any comments about cyclists that are using "normal" supplements to a degree that they take on "drug-like" qualities...

On the other hand, I think I'm going to go hit some "natural" diet sites. More likely to dredge up some interest in understanding major modifications of diet to "elicit" specific bodily results.

Stuff like "carrots are good for your eyes".....so I eat a pound a day so I can see in the dark.....
