Touring - 23-25X700 touring tire

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looking for a touring tire, any suggestions?

I've read both good and bad things about conti tires on this board. Some people hate them and some love them. I have used the Ultra 2000 on all my tours. They may puncture easier than some other brands, but, in my experience, they last. My best experience with them was on a 4500 mile trip loaded (rear panniers only, about 35 pounds) in 2 months. I rotated the tires at around 2500 miles. I had 5 flats, but I used the same two tires for the entire trip.
D*Alex, I'll check my LBS and see. Cpratt25, I've also heard good things about the 2000s' and like Contis' in general.

Specialized Armadiilo's are long wearing tires that enjoy an excellent reputation with many cycling tourers. They may not ride quite as smoothly as conti's.

I know you said 23-25, but if you were willing to go up to a 700x28, I have nothing but good to say about the Vittoria Randonneur.

My LBS recommended the IRC Road Warrior or Triathlon (I think it's badly named) tires to me for touring as well as general riding. They have a kevlar belt as well as a kevlar bead and they're really well priced... says he hasn't gotten a flat in nine months. I just put them on my bike a few days ago and they feel pretty nice so far... but no solid opinions yet.
Go to a bike shop and buy one! D*Alex, that's the FIRST time I ever saw you give bad advice to someone.
He should buy two!
I would have to third the Specialize Turbo Armadillos. I have over 9,000 miles on a 4th rear 3rd front (no rotating) and never had a flat. I even use a Specialize ultralight 65grm tube and no liners! Just for your information, I now use a 700x28 in the rear and a 700x26 on the front, the 28 should last at least 3500 miles-time will tell!
As a side note, I did not have good luck with the Contis but I never tried the Gatorskins so I may try one on the front just to see-after my front Armo wears out. I am also curious about the Ruffy Tuffy that Rivendell sells and claims to be as good as the Armadillos but lighter, faster, better handling...could this be true?
Avocet Cross tires are good all around rubber.
