Mountain Biking - dream DH\freeride frame.....

So, i've had my stumpy fsr for abou5 full months and love it. I want to keep it, but i'm noticeing the drops I want to do are a little to big for my bike. I'm also ready to get into jumping. My friend says its time for a DH\ freeride rig, so I figured since I have all winter to build this thing, I'd get the ball rolling now. What kind of freeride and dh frames are you guys useing, and whats some of your favorite forks to go with 'em. any help would be greatly appreciated....

It has a Marz 66 on it. Mine is the '05 model with the Progressive 5th element and the Hayes discs. The '06 came with a Fox DHX and Avid's.

a friend of mine has that bike and loves it. I was looking at that one and maybe the demo, but I want something that I can still somewhat ride(i.e not have to walk it) up the trails

That's why I chose the SX Trail over the Demo 9.

Don't get me wrong, I was definately lusting of the Demo, it was just too much bike for the riding I do.

The stock tires are too big and heavy for my riding as well. I'm probably going to switch to a smaller lighter tire in the back probably a 2.25 (stock is 2.4) and stick with a 2.4 in front, just a lighter tire.

Other than that, I really like the bike and the way it rides.

I use a transition dirtbag...if I were to have the spare cash I would/could buy a demo, but really I don't go big enough to use that much frame. 6 and 7inches works great for how I ride.

and its light as hell. Still can't believe how light you got it...

sx trail is damn good. I actually just convinced a buddy to get one, stock it is pretty heavy, according to him, but overall he is loving it for all aspect of riding, pure xc racer, dh, north shore. Likely the best all round bike

By all reasonable measurements it's overkill for 80-90% of the riding I use it for, but compared to guys I ride with, I have I've always climbed faster and decended slower, so the bike was a (somewhat succussful) attempt to balance things out.

There have only been a few misl. problems with the thing since I got it... although it may already need new bearings somewhere in the vicinity of the BB. I'm generally pretty happy with it.

Dirt bag, Stinky, Howler. I can't think of any else, but before I came into the thread I had tons.

I did change out the headset, wheels and drivetrain! Chris King, Profile Racing Hubs and XTR shifters, XT cassette, Sram chain.

What did you do to your to lighten it up significantly?

I only picked his up vs my buddies. Gastro seemed to save a lot of weight with the fork...at least from my brief encounter with the bike.

I drilled lots of speedholes. :D

Actually, I don't think the 66RC2X is much lighter than the OE 66R. I imagine my bike is still around 40 lbs, even with a ti spring, 32H 729's with Hadleys, and 1x9 setup with XT cassette. I mainly just worked on getting the unsprung weight down without sacrificing durability.

I could probably drop a lot more if I were willing to go to an air fork....but I am not.

if you have the $$$ go for the Santa Cruz Nomad, that's what I'm going to get as soon as I get all the parts I want on my Bruiser, then I'm going to swap em over

I'd love to build a FR dually. Mine would most likely be either a Trek Session 10 (I know it's a package deal) or a VP Free DHX / Totem, DeeMax, X.9, Saint Cranx 36t, e.13 guide, easton cockpit, Nevegal 2.8's, (possibly a gravity dropper post) Avid Code's, Lizard Logo lockonz

I've got my Bullit at 36 pounds,thats pretty good for a heavy trail bike. Go with the SX Trail if you can swing it. I have a fiend who rides one and he's pretty hard on stuff. He just took his to Rotorua New Zeland and rode with some pretty good riders.I'll see if I can find a pic for you. Here's a link to a pic

thanks for the input guys. right now, i'm gonna ride my stumpy for the rest of this season. So far, i've broken it down to either the sx trail, or the enduro expert. I dont get too crazy, but i've found myself wanting a little more travel, and I think the enduro expert will give me that, but i'm also liking the sx trail. I guess we'll see at the end of the year......

You better believe it. Especially since I usually trailride with the seat slammed. So much for my roadie form.
