has any one heard of or seen a 7 spd. with out that huge jump to low gear? I would like to even out my gearing, I never use the ultra-low cog. I think it would be cool if it was a closer ratio.

Get an 8 speed with the cogs you like and remove the smallest to fit on the 7spd freehub.

Is it that easy. I mean do the cogs just come off so i can take the biggest one off, or is there cutting involved?

Or adjust one of the set screws so it won't shift into the lower/higher gear, then you won't be jacking up your cassette.

sometimes a rivet or a tiny hex key accessible pin. my sram just required a hex key. if it is a rivet just drill the head until it is free. you do not need to replace either afterwards.

I put an 11-28 xtr 8sp cassette on my wifes bike (7spd) and just removed the 11 tooth cog.. so she has a 12-28.
