General Cycling Discussion - Asthetic nonsense: Brooks and Cane Creek

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ordering parts for the new bike and I'm planning on putting a Brooks B17 on there with Cane Creek brake levers. These levers are currently available with gum hoods and I'm wondering how well these hoods would match the honey color of the Brooks saddle. Anyone here have any experience with these?

Otherwise I'd be happy with black/black. Just thought I'd check first.

I have an old Ideale saddle. I know it is not a Brooks but mine has really darkened over the past 20 years. It looks ok with the Gum hoods but you may want to go with black/black if you are worried about the color change. Sweat and leather lotion will darken it pretty quickly I am guessing.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Actually, I had just remembered after I posted this thread that I have a set of Shimano levers sitting in my parts bin. No reason not to use those.

Black it is.

E. Pup,

I've got black, Cane Creek, flat bar, levers and an honey Brooks on my Salsa. I think it looks good, the handle bar is black though, so they match it.

I've got a Honey B-17 Special on my Campy Centaur Waterford. I thought the leather saddle wouldn't look so good with it at first. I get compliments everywhere I go. I think the gum hoods will look real nice with the Honey saddle. Good luck.

All bikes are the same color at night. I got over worrying about matching ensembles about the same time as i started night commuting. If worring about such things keeps you awake at night, sorry but I do not feel your pain. ;)
