Yeah, I did.
Just go back from doing the block (country block, 8.4 miles with the biggest hill in the county). I went the downhill route and got up to 41 miles an hour, most fun.
--A
Rode across the parking lot from the motel to the grocery store....beat the crap out of walking back with the groceries:p Plan on a bit longer ride tomorrow...might ride all the way to the other side of the parking lot:eek: ;)
Aaron:)
I always do!:) unless I get a flat.
Great ride in at 5:00 am.
Hardly any cars because of the long weekend and
delitefully cool. Hooked my new lights up and they worked great.
The 12 miles back at 2:00 pm was equally great. A new route with
hills 'o plenty.....sunshine.....:)
I feel like I owe somebody for rides like today !
Yes! I drove the van to the store and back......sorry, I couldn't resist--but it's still in the 90's here with killer humidity. Anytime I can go under air, I do.
I didn't ride because Ernesto passed over my town early this morning. It would have been faster to ride because so many streets were flooded and blocked off.
I did!!!! I had the day off, rode my bike to the bank to cash my check, went to Performance and got myself a pair of cycling shoes, and went and ran a few other errands on my bike. My first time ever riding clipless!
Went about 10 miles on my bike after putting on the clipless shoes, and got my mandatory clipless fall out of the way (Luckily it was in grass while I was attempting to cut across between a parking lot and driveway)
All in all I had a good ride! :)
Naturally I enjoyed my commute. An hour to work and an hour back. Alternatives are 2 hours each way by public transit or $7.00 per round-trip for gas for my truck.
Of course I did. I rode to an all-day meeting halfway across town, up and down some pretty nice hills, and part of the ride was through a nice wooded area. It was WAAY more fun than the meeting...
I think the only bad ride is the one with huge headwind......Then on the ride back, it's still in your face.
It's rare I don't. Even after I get back and the wind has been a headwind. Well, if strong enough, maybe I don't enjoy the wind, when it gusts and I wonder if it might blow me over. Afterwards, I think of those challenging rides as educational.
Crazy enough, I did. At my work I'm salaried, so overtime generally needs to be reduced from somewhere. So I took a more scenic commute in today hoping to kill some time - only added an extra 15 minutes to my ride instead of an hour. *shrugs*
However, after work I took a long route to my girlfriend's place, and she had decided she wanted to do the hour or so ride from her place to mine so I could do some work on her bike over the weekend... Two hours later (wrong turn - my fault) we got there, totalling my ride time to just under four hours... And I worked 9 hours today. Not too shabby, I feel great (if a little sore).
Gonna spend the long weekend doing what I love - fixing/cleaning bicycles and drinking beers. Cheers!
My girlfriend has started to subscribe to my bicycle mindset - you get somewhere, *and* you feel better for having gotten there under your own power on a bike. What more can a cycle nut ask for?
Cheers Stacey for this positive thread!
Commute was great! Traffic was backed up and I filtered past a good 20 cars stuck in traffic. Feels good.
Midnight metric for me and a couple of buddies last night. Way too much fun at that hour. Roads to yourself. Easy to get out of the way if you like when you actually see one coming. Nice and cool on top of everything else. BUHAHAHAHAHA!
I'm still working on getting out the door. My son is at his grandma's house and my wife is at work. Just me, the dog, and the cat. So quiet....
If I can get out the door and do a 50 mile ride I will hit 300 miles in one week for the first time.
I need to go riding today. I just need to bring myself to do it. It's laundry day and whatnot, and I desperately need to clean up. I've literally been riding my commuter road bike non-stop. I haven't ridden my faster road bike in weeks. What a waste.
Well, didja?
Nah, don't think I will get out today, the whole weekend looks like a washout, thanks Ernesto:(
I had a great ride this morning on the 1959 Capo. First, a four-mile loop to the local YMCA for my weight training routine (to keep up what little upper body strength and bulk I have), followed by a 16-mile round-trip to my friend's 8th annual Brucknerthon, honoring the great Austrian composer. Of course I was the only one who showed up with an Austrian vehicle. :)
hahaha I still haven't gone today. I think I'm about to go bike downtown and take in the city for a bit. Too bad I don't have a fixie built up right now so I can pretend I'm a messenger or something.
I had a great ride today, pushed myself out of my comfort zone.
Yeah. Short as it was (2 miles for some breakfast goodies)... :)
I certainly did. My wife and I met up with a friend and rode around Sanibel Island. We stopped at the beach and locked the bikes up and just walked around for a bit before heading back.
Sanibel is one of the most beautiful areas in Florida but paying 6 bucks to cross the toll keeps me from going out there very often by car. Once the new causeway is complete I'd like to get back into riding my bike down there.
Okay, I can now say I enjoyed my ride. I did 36 miles total. I went and terrorized downtown as I rode laps around downtown.
I did finally get out and ride yesterday. It was quite the amusing ride. My total mileage was about 60 miles.
I have had a bit of an exploring bug. Wandered through a northern denver industrial area down into denver via several bike routes and bike lanes (gasp!).
Towards the end of the first half of my trip I was riding west of denver via some interesting neighborhoods and found myself on the least cycling friendly streets in the metro area. I take back all the complaints about my little suburb and street riding. Riding on federal around alameda was scary. Half the freaking right lane is cement and the other half is beaten up asphalt. That and the drivers.....ugh!
Needless to say I diverted off this street and relocated my bike path.
All in all it was a fun trip. I need to keep exploring the metro area. There is nothing like exploring on a bike. It gives you more time to take everything in. :)
Oh, yeah, baby. First time this summer the temps & humidity were resonable (68 DEGF & 70% at dawn). Got home from 45 miles with my group & I was not sodden with sweat.
Plus, it was my first ride on my NEW BIKE!
:D
Saturday's ride... Most of it! The first quarter was over lovely chipseal on Minnehaha eastwards, then through evil car-ridden east Vancouver on the way to the I-205 bridge. Then my original plan of a quick cruise to I-5 down Marine Drive fell apart due to aimless wandering. Wound up at Stumptown on Division and had a (mandatory!) double ristretto. Wandered around some more, and found myself by Citybikes. Realized I had just enough daylight to get home by, got directions, and boogied up to the I-5 bridge. The final ten miles home through Vancouver was the usual uphill grind. Ended the ride by riding back and forth past the driveway a couple times to officially clock in 100 kilometers!
So much for a quick afternoon ride!
The weather here has been amazing, especially after high 90s and high humidity! :) I took several short rides yesterday and I just got back from sauntering around town today. We have an MUP that runs through town and there were LOTS of folks out enjoying the weather. One thing I've noticed though is that hardly anyone will say hello. I usually try to nod, wave, or say hi, and I usually just get a pissed off glare in return. It's ok though. They can be angry all the time if they want to, it's not going to take away from my enjoyment. :D
Yes. Rode a 8 mile gravel road twice each way. Great downhills. 25mph average in one direction down.
I did 51 miles on the KATY Trail today. My longest ride ever. The weather was perfect.
OH MY GOD YEAH!
i had the air compressor hooked up today so i filled the tires to max for the first time :) then i headed out, and like 20 minutes in to my ride through a "wilderness area," i saw about 30 great egrets! sitting on 3 trees! i kept saying "oh my god! oh my goodness! oh my god!" it was unbelievable!!! i didnt have a camera, and my dad didn't feel like driving out to me, so i made it home faster than i ever have before. haha. but when i got back out there again the birds were gone and it was pitch black anyway :'( but thats okay. it was so cool while they were there. i got to see them fly around, and hold their wings out, and flap at each other, and i got to listen to them talk to each other and chatter. it was SOCOOL. then i saw an owl catching (or trying to catch!) something. then i saw two deer! and a harrier (i think). and about 10,000 small birds. i thought my ride was cursed today because i kept having problems (even had to head back home after a false start) but it was actually just perfect--if i hadn't been so late, i might have missed the egret council :) so awesome!
but i did notice that my bike seems to vibrate a lot more (all kinds of crazy noises and butt vibration) with higher air pressure in the tires. that was okay! there were egrets :) plus when i got home there was a huge pot of corn on the cob! i ate it with one of my cats. RIGHTEOUS!
I only did a tiny ride today to go get coffee and deposit my Google ad check. Otherwise I spent the whole weekend working from home. What a waste.
I can't remember ever not enjoying my ride. OK, a few times when I've had to really dig through rutted snow over gravel roads, I could say that I could be having more fun on the road, but that's not to say it wasn't still better than sitting in a stinky tin can.
:D Yep! :D
I rode the 4.98 miles to work this morning and get to look forward to the afternoon ride. I am on the road bike today, but wearing all mountain bike gear, so I hope to get some strange looks when I pass people tonight. I also hope that Laguna Canyon is still blocked to cars, because that is a great 30 mile speed fest! :D
I had a nice ride starting about 4:30 AM with a very light rain. Kept things nice and cool, but I did have to dry and re-lube my chain when I got home. But very nice early morning ride. Little traffic is out that early, so I can remain watchful of all the cars that pass.
Sometimes I consider not riding, but just staying inside and doing something else (including core exercises, yuk!). But once I'm out on the bike, I always enjoy myself. The only problem is that I do try to stay on the more well-lit streets, which cuts back on the streets I can travel in daylight since some neighborhoods around here are quite poorly lit.

ROde 100 km up into the mtns today. Coast was cloudy, the mtns. were above the clouds and sunny. One of best parts was stopping at a pastry shop and munching on a 'babba rhum', with lots of rum. Really relaxed the muscles.
Nope.
I've been chillin' off the bike for over a week. Sometimes it feels good to take a lazy break.
:)
Girlfriend rode in w/ me. Took it easy, and had a nice ride. Even got breakfast b/f getting to work:)
Today. I rode only about 25 miles thru wine country just to get my newspaper. Sun was great, even if before getting home the headwinds were rough. But, it is beyond the 100 days maturation time( think the phrase they use) and grapes are being harvest for the vintners. The smell was intense.
Think today, most of the tractors carrying grapes, I got stuck behind were carrying mature grapes for reds. The smell was of merlot.
Riding in wine country daily, you know when you are riding behind chardonnay or merlot grapes.
But, riding in wine country you see tidbits of how grapes are harvested. The grapes are harvested by a machine that shakes the plant. Then loaded and sent to the vintner. Mashing starts with the grapes being sucked up to the vats, using a rotating vain like pump which mashes them , turns them to liquid which forces the now fluids to be tranported into a pipe right from the trailer, used to transport them from the field.
Getting carried away. Just the smell is intoxicating. We do love living and biking in wine country. I try not to take much cash, or my bike trips would last for hours stopping at the wine trasting rooms.
Someone recently posted a thread, they get bored when they do not have a plan and just ride. That was my ride today. Sunshine and spontoneously making unexpected turns, down unfamiliar roads . It was a great ride. Only once did a paved road lead me to nowhere, causing me to have to turn back.
i recently rigged up a stereo FM receiver and two Sony flat speakers for use on my bikes. Seattle has KEXP FM, (on the web at KEXP.ORG) one of the best, commercial free independant radio stations, and arguably one of the best stations on the planet.
It is all been rock and ROLL for me lately. Loving it. the late summer weather has been sublime up here in the Northwest.
I just got back from a two-hour jaunt on my mountain bike to break in my new NiteRider Classic Plus (now sporting the Classic Plus on the bars with the Firestorm HID on the helmet for off-roading). That was fun! :) A 20-minute road ride to the trailhead, a bunch of sweet singletrack in pitch-dark forest, and a 20-minute ride home. Dunno who the guys were who yelled "WOOO HOOO, YOU ROOOOOCK!!!!!!!!" from their car, but that made me grin :D
The mechmobile now recharges its anti-darkness devices...
Oh, and a co-worker saw me while driving his car. He said, "I knew it was you because of all the lights!" He said my new vest shows up great, too
i saw another cyclist up in the hills today! i think she actually lived up there though, but it was still awesome. she was nice! a lot of nice people today and yesterday, saying "hidey ho" and "hello!" and a lot of motorists waved at me :) at one point the distant green hills were silhouetted against closer green hills, and it looked like i was in a cartoon. it was a beautiful evening.
I always enjoy my rides, whether it's a weekend ride or commuting to work, store, or the bank. Depending on the weather, traffic, route, etc I just enjoy some rides more than others. :p
Of course. I wouldn't do it, if it wasn't enjoyable.
What a silly question. If it's not fun, why do it? (http://store.benjerry.com/ifitsnotfunw1.html)
Yes I enjoyed my ride today. 6.8 miles out & back to a grocery store, fair size hill on the way. Encountered Son riding out on my way home.
What a silly question. If it's not fun, why do it? (http://store.benjerry.com/ifitsnotfunw1.html)
Not silly at all. For a spell there everyone was pissing and moaning about how crappy their ride was, cars cutting them off, people throwing stuff at them I began to wonder myself... If you're not enjoying it, why do it?
Hence, I posted the question. Judging from the responses some people do actually enjoy their rides.
Today we did about 50 miles up in the foothills. With fall near, the air felt cooler and crisp. Think the cooler air gave us a little more energy to charge up the hills. With great scenery for starters, this traditional ride never gets old.
I did 20 miles through surburbia yesterday morning...(its supposed to be rainy for the next 3 days :( ) Was tons of fun.
It is the end of summer here in Norway. Crisp clear air and still 20 degrees celsius. Blue sky and lots of nice contended people walking, running and cycling in the woodlands behind Oslo. I have had a cold and am still suffering from really bad cinuses but had to go road cycling yesterday and in the woods today. Should have been a 30 mile very easy round but when i started passing people on the way home I let it rip more than I should. Wonderful to be back on the bikes again !
