So I was thinking of this one, and I wanted to buy it before I'm out of money. I found a color chooser for the king headset. Here's what I came up with-

So I have the hardest time deciding on any parts, as I'm a tad bit obssessive. :)
Any color suggestions would be appreciated, so make your own, press print screen and copy it into paint and show me what ya got!

you whould have to drop anywhere from 170-200 for that, but it sexy and i whould rock that if i had the money to throw down on chris king but idk if they whould sell it like that, you whould have to buy each part separate, which whould be a stupid amount of money to make that happen.

I like the Rasta headset better, but I would never buy a king component.

Please try to act like your not a complete ******. The link, which I CLEARLY linked too, sells any color make up for the king headset for 140 dollars.

Even with the color option, those things are a total waste of money if you even remotely abuse your forks.

I swear that the bearings in mine broke when I looked at the upper race the wrong way.

You actually spent that much money on one?!?!

Haha.
Yeah if i would get a Solid if i was going to get a new headset for a standard headtube frame...

Speaking of headsets, is the FSA impact considered a good headset for integrated headtubes, like my new Solid frame...?

Well the king has a 10 year warranty, and I've heard tons of reviews of people swapping their headset from new bike to new bike.

WHAT?

I've had a King on my DH mountain bike for six years and 15,000km. It was mint when the frame cracked, and I've just moved it to a new DH frame. I'm expecting it to last another six years, at the very least.

This is not some heavyweight off-road version. The exact same headset.

How can they be failing on road bikes?!

Or was this on a BMX?

Just so you know, I also swap my $40 fsa headset from frame to frame. I own one King headset, I doubt I ever buy another one. They just aren't worth the money. A few years back they were well ahead of other companies. Now a days there are a lot of very nice headsets available though, most of which are much cheaper than the King.

If you have money laying around that you just want to throw away then by all means get the king. Otherwise spend the money on more beneficial upgrades.

LOVE both of these. Colors all depend on your bike's color of course.

those headsets look cool together like that, but remember it will be separated by 8" of head tube and 2" of stem--to most it will simply look like your stuff is mismatched

just a thought

Which one do you suggest?

Are you buying the king for the bling factor, or for its superior performance?

If its the latter, honestly can you tell the difference?

Didnt think so ;) Buy a different headset and use the extra $100 to buy other stuff

I've had great luck with my FSA Orbit Extreme, it's been on two bikes now. However, I have even had great luck with my FSA Orbit XL II (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/14140-205_FSAOX5-3-Parts-63-Headsets/FSA-Orbit-XL-Il-Headset.htm) which you can get from Pricepoint for $40. The most recent headset I purchased was an American Classic headset. I bought it because I am a weight weenie. It works as well as any other headset out there.

Oh yeah, that's the ticket, Gobi.

Roll it with a crochet Rasta beret and lube up with the patchouli for the subtle touch the ladies can't get enough of.

I swapped my $5 headset from frame to frame.

I swapped my $70 frame from headset to headset... Oh wait, that's not relevant here.
King=bling. Don't fool yourself saying that you're buying it for its performance.

The mismatched colour thing could work if you harmonized the colour with your bike parts. Match it to the overall colour scheme, or to the component nearest to it: lower frame cup the same colour as your fork, top cup matches the frame, cap matches the stem... Could be nice.

Kings are awesome! although yes maybe overpriced.

I've had good luck with my FSA orbit as well.

But......this thread isnt about how good a King is or how much it should cost.

Before I could recommend a color combo, I would need to see a picture of the bike or frame its going on.... post it up.

But i also think that maybe although its a cool idea, i like the single color headset.

Excellent observation.
