General Cycling Discussion - Child Trailers? Pros Cons and advise on brands

I am about to invest in a Trailer for my bicycle to haul my Daughter in so she can enjoy the out doors whiledaddy gets some excersise. I have looked all over the web for info on the Carriers. My conserns are 1) Safety for my child. 2) Durability of the product 3) Value for my money. I have looked at many models online including the Instep Trailers, Bell lil rambler(are they the same as the helmet company?), Yakima (mabe too expensive), Chariot Carriers and Burly (both of wich are kind of expensive). The Bell Lil Rambler is one of the front runners that I am considering but I can't seem to find some info on it, like does it have a stroller conversion kit available so I can walk around after I have arived at a destination withouthaving to lock anoter piece of equipment.

Basically any feedback you can giveme on your experiences with child trailers would be great. Any websites that have this info would be helpful also.

We have a Burly trailer. It has carried all three of our children until they could each ride their own bike. My daughter is the last one in the Burly as she is just turning two. My boys are riding their own bikes now (10 and 6). The Burly is well built and trails perfectly and this is a 10 year old model. It was expensive back then too. I never worry about the kids in the trailer. There is a nice 5 point harness system and plenty of room for the required snacks along the ride. I have never fallen or tipped this trailer over and the kids just love riding in it. I feel it is much safer than the attach on the back type carrier, but that's just my opinion.

You do get all kind of remarks when pulling the trailer once people see there's a child inside.

Hey, invest in a decent trailer - your child is worth it. My sister and her husband have a piece-of-crap Trek that converts to an equally worthless stroller. I used a BOB for my son, they don't make them anymore unfortunately, fantastic product. If you can find one used buy it.

I use the Trek Child trailer with the ball style attachment. It is great but does not convert to a stroller. It is light weight and pulls behind very smoothly. It has kept my daughter dry in a prettty hard rain once and she loves to cruise in it.

I've got a Norco I use for my grand daughter, and have had good use out of it. One thing to look for is a shelf built into the back, so the child's helmet isn't against the back wall which causes it to get pushed down over their eyes. It's annoying for the child and causes them to resent wearing the helmet.

Dude, we have a chariot, well make that two chariots, one is the Cabriolet two kid unit, which I have pulled up a 13% grade, housing 60lbs of kids plus toys, thats the only time I've actually really noticed a load. The second is the jogger, which we had put the tow bar on for last summer to pull just my daughter. (my son was on the trail-a-bike)
Both are decent quality units, I think we will have to get the stroller / jogger front wheel for the double, Mme is expecting twins in June, other wise Id offer you the sale of one... :D
