Bicycle Mechanics - Internally Routed Cables

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Whats the trick to replacing the housings on internally routed brake cables. The Bike is a Trek 1220 the rear brake cable is routed into the frame and out again near the seatpost. Is there a trick for threading the new housing in and out of the holes. The Bike is my wifes which she rides regularly so I need to know before I attempt so I don't leave without a ride.
Thanks
My bike has internaly routed cables, I did not have any real problems fitting the cables. Why not unhook the brake cable, and just pull the cable out this way you are not completely dismantling it and you can see how it basicaly works. Then when you actualy replace the cables you will know ahead of time by first hand knowledge how it goes.

The key is "patience", it can get really frustrating. When you've had enough, ask your wife to take a shot. They usually get it in about 15 secs, then look at you and say, "That was easy. How long have you been trying to do that?". Sure, it's aggrevating, but at least it's done!

I have never messed with it before, but my hunch would be to tie a guide string to the old cable before pulling it out. Then tie it to the new cable and its already running the correct route internally.

HEHE I love my frame. I have internally routed system. There is a secondary housing in the frame tho. The cable housing just goes through this housing. Changing cables and housing is nothing for me.
