Introductions - Greetings from GA

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings Everyone,
I've been lurking around for a few days and figured I'd go ahead and sign up and introduce myself.
I'm getting back in to riding mostly to get back into shape. I had been doing some long walks, etc but a heel spur has put an end to that for a while. I have a long road ahead of me but I know that with watching what I eat and riding on a regular basis I'll get there.
I recently bought a K2 Mach 2.0 for me to ride and my wife decided she wanted to start riding with me so we bought her a K2 Mach 1.0 to ride.
I've set a pretty lofty goal of riding 2500 miles this year (bought my K2 on Jan 29) and have ridden 172 miles towards that goal.
Donna and I will be doing several of the organized rides in Georgia and south east. Hopefully we'll meet up with some of you all on the road.

Do you happen to know Rob & Judy Caudill? They can often times be seen riding a yellow Burley Paso Dobles tandem, although Rob also goes out solo and hammers with the racer boys.
Regarding organized rides, perhaps you've already got it marked on your calendar, but you've got the Tour de Pike on Saturday the 22nd, the Dublin Century on Sunday the 23rd and then the Peach Blossom on the 29th -- all in your neck of the woods.
More info on all these rides and links to their Web sites with registration forms are on www.BicycleGeorgia.com's Web site calendar: http://www.serve.com/bike/georgia/gacmar.html
We've done all three in the past, although Dublin has traditionally been the "kick-off" event for Spring cycling in Georgia but it would appear that the Tour de Pike has them beat. They are all nice, early season rides.

Hey Zack - welcome aboard. My wife and I are riding in the St. Pat's Century in Dublin, GA later this month. Are planning to make that one? they have other options as well as the 100 mile ride.
Check the calendar on this iste for March to get the details.
Peace,
Lou
Hi Zack and welcome to BikeForums from a fellow Georgian.

Good for you.
Cycling is a great way to get in shape. That's why many of us here (like me :) ) got back into cycling.
Maybe I'll run into you at one of the organized rides in the area.

Tandem Geek: Yes I know Rob. Before giving up cycling for a while I did a ride or two with him. I haven't had the chance to ride with he and Judy yet. They ride the local Sunday afternoon ride. I'm not up to 35 miles yet but once I can handle that I'll give it a shot.
As far as rides go Donna and I are registered for the Tour De Pike. It'll be here first organized ride and we're doing the 18 mile route. I'm not planning on doing the Dublin ride for a couple of reasons: (1) I'm not sure Donna is up for to long rides back to back - my guess is no at this point in time and (2) that date conflicts with the local pistol match. I'm an active pistol shooter and shoot a couple of matches a month. We will also do the Peach Blossom Ride. I've done the 60 mile?? route before but we'll do the 15 mile route this year. I have spent a lot of time looking at the GA ride calendar plotting out rides for us :)
Does anyone know if South Carolina has a similar calendar? I'm interested in rides in the Myrtle Beach area.
amerpie: I "know" you from the Bicycling.com forums. I saw your post on regarding your lessons learned from your last century attempt. If I recall you're from somewhere in North Carolina, right? I call Winston-Salem home. My brother lives in Asheboro and my parents and sister live in Elizabeth City.
RonH: I'm sure I'll see you some where. I'm easy to find - just look for the big fat guy on the K2 and a skinny wife :)

I'm from Fayetteville, NC.
After the 91 mile tire blowout on 2/18, I completed a century from Fayetteville to White Lake and back on 3/1.
Feel free to PM or email me for riding opportunitiesin the Tarheel state.

Welcome to the forums Zach. There are plenty of Georgians here, always room for another.
